Job Description

Job Summary

Join our Uncooled Detector (Focal Plane Array) Research & Development team and help develop the wafer fabrication processes behind next-generation infrared detector technology.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of key wafer fab processes, including plasma etch, thin-film deposition using sputtering PVD and PECVD, and other advanced fabrication techniques. You’ll design and implement new processes, improve and automate existing processes, and perform hands-on wafer fabrication and characterization of pilot lots to support aggressive technology development goals.

This is an ideal opportunity for a self-directed, goal-oriented, and collaborative engineer who enjoys hands-on technical work and creative problem solving. The work is varied and challenging, and you’ll collaborate with device physicists, research technicians, test engineers, and other technical experts throughout the R&D lifecycle.

Our culture is collaborative, supportive, and fun, with work performed across both general office and cleanroom/lab environments.

What You’ll Do

- Develop and innovate new wafer fabrication processes to enable the technology roadmap.

- Design and execute experiments, analyze data, draw conclusions, and clearly document and communicate results.

- Establish the feasibility of new processes through hands-on processing of pilot lots using production equipment.

- Characterize process results using quantitative metrology tools.

- Automate, optimize, and improve established manufacturing processes.

- Transition process knowledge to sustainment engineers and technicians.

- Specify, procure, and qualify new equipment as needed to support development activities.

- Partner with tool design engineering to develop fixtures and equipment modifications.

- Document methods and workflows in MES-ready formats.

- Develop and support Statistical Process Control (SPC) practices as appropriate.

- Evaluate production yield challenges and recommend process improvements.

- Collaborate with device physicists, research technicians, and test engineers throughout the product R&D cycle.

What You Bring

- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent relevant experience.

- 2+ years of related experience desired.

- Direct experience with one or more key wafer fabrication processes.

- Experience using semiconductor fabrication equipment, wet bench chemistry, and inspection/metrology equipment such as microscopes, FIB/SEM, and interferometers.

- Strong data analysis skills. Experience with Excel, MATLAB, JMP, Python, SQL, or equivalent tools is a plus.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

- Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.

- Familiarity with, or a strong desire to learn, microelectronics, semiconductor, and MEMS fabrication techniques.

- Experience with AMAT tools such as Centura or Endura is desired.

Desired Background

- Plasma tools for semiconductor or MEMS fabrication.

- Infrared detector technology.

- Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE).

- Lean Six Sigma or other structured problem-solving and decision-making methods such as 8D or Kepner-Tregoe.

What We Offer

- Competitive salary and benefits package

- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance beginning Day 1

- Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays

- 401(k) with company match

- Employee Stock Purchase Plan

- Educational tuition reimbursement
