Dining and Catering Supervisor

The Dining & Catering Supervisor directs and supervises the daily operations of all dining rooms, assuring a pleasant dining experience. The incumbent provides assistance and hospitality to all those who use the dining room and promotes excellent service.

Pay:

$25.00-$28.00/hour

Hours: 5 days a week, days working and days off based on coverage needs with other managers and events.

Primary Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AS SUPERVISOR

- Complete all annual staff performance appraisal forms, directly or through subordinates; deliver to Human Resources through department head by due date. Meet with staff on a continual basis to review performance and provide feedback, guidance and instruction.

- Select candidates, train, assign and supervise staff, directly or through subordinates. Ongoing evaluation of staff performance. Initiate disciplinary action and consult with Human Resources regarding employee issues.

- Plan for and recommend space, staffing, training and equipment needed to meet resident needs and/or to provide other services. Needs are demonstrated by budget, goals and objectives, reports and other departmental records.

- Participate in applicable committees and meetings as required.

- Complete required in-services.

- Respond to internal and external communication timely and appropriately utilizing customer service approach.

- Promote a teamwork mentality throughout all aspects of position.

- Communication and support of campus wide initiatives and goals to staff level to ensure all employees are aware of the organization’s overall goals and objectives.

- Develop & implement departmental policies & procedures.

- Support employee Safety programs and initiatives, ensuring no lost time caused by work related injuries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Keep the Point of Sale (POS) system updated and provide system training for staff.

- Comply with all local, state and federal regulations including possession and compliance of all regulations of a valid class 12 mixology and food handlers permit, and enforcement of staff certifications and renewals.

- Assist Housekeeping and Facilities departments in maintaining dining room and keeping equipment in good condition.

- Create a warm, inviting, and pleasing dining room experience for all residents by being professional and customer service oriented.

- Work directly with residents to resolve any problems or complaints.

- Coordinate and assist in the preparation and service of special meals for parties, banquets and other catering needs.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for catering, communicating with residents and departments to coordinate catering events.

- Create a detailed action plan for each catering event and communicate special requests, timing and execution details to the General Manager (GM), Executive Chef (EC), Sous Chef and staff involved.

- Schedule staff for catering events and communicate assignments and expectations. When absent, prepare an action plan and review event details with the assigned staff before the event.

- Take primary responsibility for overseeing the setup, execution and cleanup of all catered events.

- Maintain the catering calendar, coordinating event commitments with staff and kitchen capacity to avoid overbooking.

- Print and distribute function sheets for events and communicate tasks to the appropriate staff.

- Maintain the function tracking spreadsheet.

- Maintain the Master Function Sheet, updating menu items and pricing as needed.

- Maintain catering menus and marketing materials in Canva or in coordination with the Administrative Assistant.

- Develop visually appealing staging and setup ideas for catered events.

- Work with vendors to order additional products needed for events.

- Maintain and organize catering serviceware, the catering kitchen and catering storage areas.

- Assist the Dining Room Supervisor with daily service in the Main Dining Room (MDR) and Cascades. Remain present on the floor during all service times, except when overseeing catering events.

- Develop and oversee the sanitation and safety programs for the dining rooms and service areas including compliance with infectious diseases and universal precaution policies.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

- Associate’s degree in hospitality or restaurant management or related field preferred.

- Current Food Handler’s Permit

- Current Class 12 Mixologist Permit or ability to obtain within six weeks.

- Three years’ experience in food and beverage service, with a track record showing progressive responsibility; at least two years’ staff management experience.

- Strong leadership skills; organizational, training and coaching skills.

- Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding the employment of minors.

- Common sense and ability to make sensible decisions under pressure.

- Genuine interest in older adults.

- Able to maintain confidentiality.

- Neat and professional in appearance.

- Regular, dependable and reliable attendance.

- Excellent English communications skills both verbal and written with proficient knowledge in use of POS systems, Microsoft 365, other applications.
