Flatirons Solutions · Boulder, Colorado · remote

USD 75,000 to 100,000 a year

Flatirons Solutions is hiring an entry-level or associate-level DevOps Engineer in Hosting Operations. In this role, you will help run and improve the infrastructure behind our customers’ systems: Linux and Windows administration, automation and scripting, high availability and cluster management, security patching, and a move toward containers. We are looking for someone who already has experience with these tools and a strong motivation to modernize how infrastructure is built and operated. You will work with senior engineers, with mentorship built in and room to take on more design and to support more of the company’s platforms as you grow. - Keep Linux and Windows systems healthy, including services, access, networking, and logs

- Apply security patches and mitigations on a recurring schedule so systems stay in compliance

- Build and maintain operational automation

- Support highly available services and database clusters

- Operate virtualized infrastructure and help move services toward containers

- Support backup and snapshot workflows, including how a restore is done

- Use AI to assist with automation, scripting, troubleshooting, and architecture, and turn that assistance into reviewed, workable changes

- Track your work in Jira on a Kanban board so status stays clear for the team

- Write clear, concise documentation so another engineer can walk into an environment and understand how it is built, operated, and recovered

- Partner with engineers on releases and incidents

- Will be a member of an on-call rotation for out-of-hours support

- Other duties as may be assigned

- Understands and adheres to all requirements of the Integrated Management Systems (IMS), which includes Quality, Information Security, and Privacy.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience, training, or certifications welcome.

- 0–2 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, cloud operations, DevOps, or a related technical role. Relevant internships, coursework, home labs, and substantial project work are valued.

- Foundational Linux administration skills, including comfort using the command line and basic familiarity with systemd and text editors such as vi/vim.

- Familiarity with containers, such as Docker, Docker Swarm, or Podman, through work, coursework, or personal projects.

- Basic Windows administration skills for common user, system, and operational tasks.

- Familiarity with Bash/Shell scripting; able to create or modify simple scripts with guidance.

- Exposure to VMware/vCenter and virtual machine operations, or a willingness to learn traditional on-premises infrastructure.

- Understanding of basic security practices, including patching, vulnerability remediation, and access management.

- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD tools, such as Terraform, Jenkins, Ansible, or similar technologies.

- Interest in learning load balancing, high availability, and cluster-management tools, such as HAProxy or Patroni.

- Familiarity with Jira, Kanban, or other ticketing and Agile work-management tools.

- Comfortable using AI tools responsibly to support automation, scripting, troubleshooting, documentation, and learning.

- Clear written communication and a willingness to document work, processes, and solutions.

- Strong curiosity, troubleshooting mindset, attention to detail, and motivation to learn modern infrastructure practices.

- Kubernetes exposure is a plus.

- Familiarity with Veeam, Zerto, or similar backup and recovery tools is a plus.
