Position Summary

The Security Officer protects personnel, facilities, and operations at PacSci EMC’s Hollister site by providing armed security coverage, controlling access, conducting patrols, monitoring security and weather conditions, supporting emergency notifications, and completing accurate documentation. The role supports a 24/7 security operation in a safety-sensitive industrial environment.

Work Schedule and Environment

• Regular schedule: Thursday through Monday, 12:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m.; regular days off are Tuesday and Wednesday. This is a five-day overnight position, not a weekend-only shift.

• The security operation is staffed continuously, including holidays. Occasional alternative-shift or extended coverage may be required to address absences; schedule exchanges may be possible with approval.

• Work is primarily based in the guard shack, with regular outdoor patrols, building lock/unlock activities, walking that may total approximately one mile during a shift, and operation of a company security vehicle.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor and control personnel, visitor, and vehicle access; accurately log arrivals and departures, maintain visitor lists, and follow established entry/exit procedures.

• Patrol facilities and grounds by foot and security vehicle; monitor surveillance equipment; inspect buildings, equipment, and access points; and conduct scheduled facility lockdown and morning unlock activities.

• Serve as an emergency-awareness-level point of contact: recognize and report incidents, follow incident-specific notification call trees, make appropriate announcements, and coordinate with the site emergency response team and outside responders.

• Monitor weather and electrical storm activity, communicate forecasts and alerts, and support site evacuation and all-clear procedures in accordance with established protocols.

• Conduct scheduled personnel and vehicle inspections for prohibited items or other security concerns; monitor and document in-transit explosive vehicle inspections and welfare checks as assigned.

• Perform magazine security checks and support safety standby during sensitive personnel events as assigned.

• Respond professionally to unauthorized access, security concerns, and disruptive behavior using calm communication and de-escalation; coordinate with law enforcement and follow applicable use-of-force policies.

• Answer and route incoming telephone calls, take messages, provide information, and support the facility switchboard around the clock.

• Prepare accurate incident reports, activity logs, email updates, visitor records, check sheets, and other required documentation; record observations and relevant witness information.

• Monitor security and surveillance equipment, report malfunctions, and coordinate troubleshooting or repair as appropriate.

• Assist EHS personnel with assigned safety and environmental inspections, including eyewash and safety showers, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, generators, emergency equipment, and waste units.

• Support assigned training briefings and records, follow established security and safety procedures, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Guard Card and previous professional security experience. Exceptions, if any, require advance hiring-manager and HR review.

• Willingness and ability to perform armed security duties, including carrying a handgun, subject to applicable licensing, qualification, training, and company policies.

• Strong verbal and written communication, customer service, sound judgment, and demonstrated ability to de-escalate difficult interactions.

• Basic computer proficiency, including email, word processing, accurate data entry, and written reporting.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company security vehicle in accordance with company policy.

• Ability to work the stated overnight schedule, including scheduled weekends and holidays, and to meet the role’s patrol and mobility requirements.

• Ability to satisfy all applicable pre-employment screening and site-access requirements, including the required ATF background clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in armed security, armored transport, industrial or high-security facilities, corrections, military security, or law enforcement.

• Current applicable firearms permit/qualification or previous armed-security credentials.

• Experience with access control, security patrols, surveillance systems, emergency communications, or safety inspections.

Training or qualification in baton, chemical agents, CPR, First Aid, AED, bloodborne pathogens, HazMat first response, and OSHA awareness will be provided or maintained as required for assigned duties. Prior completion of these programs is beneficial but not generally required at application.
