About the Role
The Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer (AMLCO) serves as a key compliance leader at Zepz, responsible for designing, maintaining, and executing the enterprise-wide AML/CFT framework. Operating with statutory independence, the AMLCO evaluates financial crime risks, oversees internal controls across the first and second lines of defense, and acts as the primary autonomous authority for reporting suspicious activities to CTIF-CFI. This position balances high-level governance—advising senior management, reporting to the Board of Directors, and managing regulatory relations—with operational leadership, directly managing a team of AML Analysts to ensure the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of all regulatory filings and compliance activities.
Responsibilities
- Framework Development & Maintenance: Develop and maintain the AML/CFT risk assessment framework for conducting both enterprise-wide and individual risk assessments.
- Regulatory Alignment & Continuous Improvement: Propose necessary adjustments in response to changing statutory/regulatory requirements or evolving AML/CFT risks, addressing deficiencies identified through monitoring and supervision.
- 1st & 2nd Line Defense Oversight: Monitor the effective application of AML/CFT controls across business units and internal functions within the first and second lines of defense.
- High-Risk Business Advisory: Provide expert guidance to senior leadership prior to entering into or continuing high-risk customer relationships. Ensure decisions contrary to advice are properly documented with mitigation strategies.
- Transaction Analysis & Due Diligence: Analyze atypical transactions and review complex scenarios where customer due diligence requirements cannot be fulfilled.
- Autonomous Suspicious Activity Reporting: Decide and autonomously submit suspicious transaction reports directly to the CTIF-CFI, without requiring prior approval from senior management.
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for CTIF-CFI, responding promptly to requests for additional information.
- Training & Capability Building: Design and deliver AML/CFT education and training programs for Zepz staff.
- Monitoring & Governance: Establish the annual AML/CFT monitoring program and ensure seamless reporting to management bodies (Board of Directors, Executive Committee) and supervisory authorities.
- Management & Risk Reporting: Regularly advise the senior officer responsible for AML/CFT on:- Areas requiring control implementation or improvement.
- Progress updates on key remediation programs (at least annually).
- Periodic and ad-hoc evaluations of AML/CFT risk exposure and mitigation effectiveness.
- Resource adequacy (human and technical) required for the AML/CFT function.
- Team Leadership & Output Management: Lead and manage a team of AML Analysts, ensuring the overall quality and timeliness of deliverables, particularly Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) filings.
Skills
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of AML/CFT statutory regulations, European directives, and specific reporting procedures for supervisory bodies such as CTIF-CFI.
- Risk Assessment Methodology: Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and refine both macro-level enterprise risk frameworks and micro-level customer risk assessments.
- Financial Crime & Transaction Analysis: Advanced analytical skills to evaluate complex financial transactions, investigate atypical customer behaviors, and determine suspicious activity thresholds.
- Autonomous Decision-Making: Proven ability to exercise independent judgment on high-risk relationships and mandatory SAR/STR reporting under tight deadlines.
- Team Leadership & People Management: Strong track record of leading, mentoring, and setting quality standards for a team of compliance analysts.
- Executive & Regulatory Communication: Superior written and oral communication skills to present reports, recommendations, and resource evaluations directly to executive committees, the Board, and regulatory authorities.
- Training & Capability Building: Skill in developing and delivering tailored AML/CFT education programs across multi-functional business units.
AI Literacy & Tools
As Zepz continues to build AI into how we work, we expect everyone to engage with it as a core part of their role. For this position we are looking for:- A genuine curiosity about AI and how it can be applied in your area of work — from accelerating analysis and insight generation, to improving how we design and deliver processes and communications.
- Practical experience using AI tools in a professional context — whether to connect information, draft content, build frameworks, or create insights from data. We want people who actively use AI to increase productivity, not those who are waiting to be told to.
- Strong AI literacy — an understanding of what AI assistants can and cannot do, how to prompt effectively, and how to critically evaluate AI-generated output before using it.
- Awareness of the ethical considerations and responsible use of AI in the workplace, particularly in the context of sensitive data, customer experience, and compliance.
- Prior experience using Claude (Anthropic) is a nice-to-have but not essential — what matters most is that you are genuinely engaged with AI as a tool, comfortable experimenting, and eager to share what works with your wider team
