Job Summary:
The Instrument & Controls (I&C) Designer is responsible for developing and executing Management of Change (MOC) design packages for operating oil & gas facilities. This role supports multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment where priorities frequently shift based on client needs, operational constraints, and project schedules. The successful candidate must be highly organized, adaptable, and capable of managing competing demands while maintaining quality, safety, and schedule commitments. The position reports to the Instrumentation Department Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the overall lead for design concepts on the project.
- Develop Instrument and Controls design deliverables for brownfield facility modifications and MOC projects.
- Prepare and revise engineering drawings, including loop drawings, wiring diagrams, control system architecture drawings, panel layouts, cable schedules, tube schedules, and installation details.
- Prepare and review Instrument construction work packs.
- Perform field verification and site walkdowns to validate existing conditions and identify potential design conflicts.
- Coordinate closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, construction, and client representatives to support project execution.
- Manage multiple active MOC packages concurrently while balancing competing priorities and schedule demands.
- Support all phases of project development, including scope definition, estimating, detailed design, construction support, and as-built documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, client specifications, facility procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, hazard assessments, and MOC approval processes.
- Resolve design issues and incorporate client-driven changes throughout project execution with minimal impact to schedule and budget.
- Review vendor documents to ensure specifications and project requirements are met.
- Review mechanical equipment packages.
- Gather and distribute information with the Instrument team and other project disciplines.
- Perform verification of designs throughout all design deliverables.
- Manage instrumentation scope changes.
- Prepare material total installed cost estimates.
- Approve instrument design deliverables for the project.
- Mentor and support younger engineers and designers.
- Performs related duties, as needed.
