Job Description
- Lead complex retirement plan correction projects from initial issue identification through successful resolution.
- Advise clients on ERISA, Internal Revenue Code, qualified retirement plans, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Identify and resolve operational failures involving 401(k) plans, contributions, eligibility, distributions, testing, and plan administration.
- Develop and implement correction strategies under IRS EPCRS, including Self-Correction Program (SCP) and Voluntary Correction Program (VCP) procedures.
- Prepare and review legal analyses, correction calculations, plan amendments, client recommendations, and supporting documentation.
- Guide clients through IRS and Department of Labor examinations, investigations, and compliance remediation matters.
- Partner with plan administrators, third-party administrators, recordkeepers, actuaries, and other retirement benefits professionals.
- Independently manage sophisticated client matters while delivering practical, business-focused solutions.
- Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to the continued growth of our retirement plan compliance practice.
Qualifications
- Active attorney bar license in any U.S. state.
- 3+ years of experience practicing ERISA or employee benefits law.
- 3+ years of direct experience with retirement plan corrections and compliance remediation.
- Hands-on experience with IRS EPCRS, including SCP and VCP correction procedures.
- Strong understanding of qualified retirement plans, particularly 401(k) and other tax-qualified retirement arrangements.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex plan failures and independently develop correction strategies.
- Excellent legal research, writing, communication, and client advisory skills.
- Experience with DOL/EBSA matters, fiduciary corrections, defined benefit plans, or cash balance plans is preferred.
- Collaborative mindset, sound professional judgment, and strong organizational skills.

We offer a competitive base salary of $170,000 to $210,000, depending on experience, along with a performance-based bonus program, including a potential 10% salary bonus for meeting billable hour goals and additional incentives for exceeding those goals. Client origination bonuses are also available.
