POSITION OVERVIEW
Elysée New York is seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer that will deliver white-glove engineering support across guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house infrastructure. This role combines meticulous craftsmanship, technical preventive maintenance (PM), and bespoke guest service within an intimate, luxury boutique environment. The ideal candidate pairs technical skills with refined interpersonal etiquette, adapts calmly to evolving situations, embraces modern building management software, and works closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, and Food & Beverage teams. This role reports to the Director of Engineering, Assistant Director of Engineering, or Engineering Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
LUXURY GUEST SERVICE & BESPOKE ATTENTION
- Serve as an ambassador of the Hotel Élysée, delivering discreet, polished, and personalized service when entering occupied guest rooms or suites.
- Address and resolve guest work orders with urgency, care, and attention to detail, actively listening to guest preferences and restoring rooms to showroom standards prior to departure.
- Demonstrate emotional intelligence, an even disposition, and refined communication during high-touch guest interactions.
DETAILED ROOM & EQUIPMENT PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE (PM)
- Execute detailed, comprehensive guest room PM cycles (e.g., "Room Care" programs), inspecting every mechanical, electrical, architectural, and plumbing component.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC systems, fan coil units (FCUs), digital thermostats, lighting controls, and luxury AV/entertainment equipment.
- Perform skilled architectural repairs: precision carpentry, furniture touch-ups, hardware adjustments, high-end millwork repairs, caulking, tile work, and wallcovering/paint restoration.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and routine troubleshooting across domestic water systems, luxury plumbing fixtures, heating/low-pressure boiler equipment, and back-of-house plant machinery.
TECHNOLOGY, SYSTEMS & ADAPTABILITY
- Operate and adapt to computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS / digital ticketing platforms), guest request dispatch applications, and building automation systems (BAS).
- Maintain thorough, accurate digital records of daily work orders, PM checklists, equipment run logs, and compliance readings.
- Swiftly adapt to unexpected priorities, dynamic hotel occupancy needs, and emergency facility requests with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
INTERDEPARTMENTAL SYNERGY & TEAM COLLABORATION
- Partner closely with Housekeeping to ensure immediate out-of-order room turnaround and proactive aesthetic inspections.
- Coordinate seamlessly with Front Desk and Guest Services teams regarding guest scheduling, room entries, and arrival/departure coordination.
- Collaborate with Food & Beverage and banqueting teams to ensure kitchen equipment, refrigeration, and dining venue facilities operate flawlessly.
- Maintain a team-first mindset: assist colleagues across departments during operational peaks or unforeseen facility challenges.
SAFETY, LIFE SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
- Comply strictly with NYC building codes, fire life safety protocols, OSHA standards, and hotel emergency procedures.
- Safely manage chemical handling, lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and PPE standards.
- Perform any other operational or property-related duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years of related experience, preferably within a luxury hotel, boutique hospitality property, or high-end residential setting, or construction finisher (with good knowledge in plumbing, electricity, HVAC, etc.).
- Technical Capability: Demonstrated competency across plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC air-handling/controls, carpentry, and finish repair.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills; ability to convey technical information clearly to non-technical guests and colleagues.
- Tech-Savvy: Comfortable utilizing mobile tablets/smartphones for digital dispatch systems, maintenance tracking software, and email communications.
- Composure & Agility: Proven ability to learn quickly, troubleshoot under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain professional composure in high-expectation environments.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, walk and stand for extended periods, and routinely lift 25 to 50 lbs safely.

- Certifications (Preferred/Advantageous): NYC Fire Department (FDNY) Certificates of Fitness (e.g., S-95, S-12, S-13, or P-99) are highly desirable. EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification is a plus.
