Manufacturing Quality Engineer BotQ
Figure · San Jose, CA
Figure is an AI robotics company developing autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots. The goal of the company is to ship humanoid robots with human level intelligence. Its robots are engineered to perform a variety of tasks in the home and commercial markets. Figure is headquartered in San Jose, CA.
Responsibilities:
Production quality
-
Own quality on assigned in-house assembly lines, such as battery pack assembly and final robot assembly.
-
Define control plans, in-process and end-of-line quality checks, and drive them toward automated inspection and data capture by the start of mass production.
-
Monitor first-pass yield and defect Paretos, apply SPC where it adds control, and lead the daily quality response on the line.
-
Lead manufacturing line audits covering process, specifications, tooling and gauges, data recording, and operator training.
New product introduction
-
Act as the quality voice on next-generation robot builds: review process flows with Manufacturing Engineering, and author and maintain PFMEAs and control plans ahead of each build phase.
-
Translate DFMEA severity and safety-critical classifications into process controls, and feed design gaps back to the design teams.
-
Define quality line-readiness criteria and sign off readiness for prototype builds through start of production.
Field failures and remanufacturing
-
Own failure analysis on field returns and remanufactured units: structured failure coding, teardown, and root cause using 8D, 5-Why, and fishbone analysis.
-
Close the loop from field data to production and design corrective actions.
-
Drive the DOA and return resolution process together with the remanufacturing and commercial teams.
Quality system and team
-
Contribute to building out the manufacturing quality management system: internal audit, corrective and preventive action, deviation handling, equipment qualification, and training standards.
-
Partner with Supplier Quality on incoming inspection and supplier corrective actions for components used on the lines.
-
Mentor quality engineers and technicians, and raise the standard of structured problem solving across Production, Manufacturing, and Quality.
Requirements:
-
7+ years of experience in quality engineering in high-volume electromechanical manufacturing (automotive, consumer electronics, robotics, or similar).
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
-
Hands-on experience authoring PFMEAs and control plans and carrying them from NPI into production.
-
Structured problem-solving experience with 8D, 5-Why, fishbone analysis, and formal corrective action processes.
-
GD&T knowledge and the ability to interpret complex technical drawings.
-
Statistical analysis and SPC using tools such as JMP or Minitab, and the ability to build dashboards from inspection and test data.
-
Experience with robotic systems, automation, or complex electromechanical assemblies.
-
Track record of working on the production floor directly with operators, manufacturing engineering, and design teams.
Bonus Qualifications:
-
Battery pack, actuator, or drivetrain assembly experience.
-
Field failure analysis, warranty, or remanufacturing quality experience.
-
Knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 standards.
-
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
-
Hands-on experience with automated inspection systems (CMM, vision systems).
-
Experience building a quality management system from the ground up.
-
CATIA V6 experience.
