ABOUT THE TEAM:
The Growth and Monetization team helps more learners discover Quizlet, build lasting study habits, and find value in our free and paid experiences. We bring growth and revenue together under one strategy: attract and retain learners we can serve and monetize over the long term. We own ads, the free experience, internationalization, growth loops, subscriptions, and payments.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As Senior Director of Product, Growth and Monetization, you will own the vision, strategy, and business outcomes for how Quizlet grows its learner base and turns engagement into durable revenue. You will shape company-level product strategy and make investment decisions across acquisition, engagement, advertising, subscriptions, and payments based on their contribution to long-term learner and business value.
You will develop a team of PMs and product leaders, shape the organization, and partner with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Marketing, Finance, and Ads Revenue Operations. You will align teams around shared goals and resolve tradeoffs between near-term revenue and future growth.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Set a unified growth and monetization strategy. Define a multi-year vision and roadmap across the portfolio. Prioritize markets, audiences, and investments using cohort retention, lifetime value, and revenue economics, with clear accountability for company-level results.
- Grow a valuable free learner base. Lead the free experience, activation, engagement, and growth loops that bring learners back and attract others. Guide internationalization and market expansion based on learner needs and each market’s potential for sustainable monetization.
- Build an effective advertising experience. Partner with Ads Revenue Operations and Engineering to grow ads revenue through product improvements, balancing ad yield and ad load with study quality, performance, and learner retention.
- Own the subscription lifecycle. Guide pricing, packaging, paywalls, trials, paid conversion, renewal, cancellation, and win-back experiences. Partner with core product teams on premium value and feature access to grow subscription revenue and paid retention.
- Strengthen payments as a specialized capability. Lead a dedicated payments roadmap spanning checkout, payment methods, authorization, recurring billing, and failed-payment recovery. Guide decisions about orchestrators, gateways, token vaults, and partners to improve payment success and net revenue.
- Make portfolio tradeoffs explicit. Establish shared measures of durable growth alongside domain metrics for ads, subscriptions, and incremental revenue from payment improvements. Evaluate cannibalization and longer-term cohort effects, with guardrails for learner trust and engagement.
- Build an organization that can scale. Hire, coach, and develop PMs and product leads; clarify ownership across teams; and anticipate capability needs 12–18 months ahead. Set standards for strategic planning, experimentation, and performance, while building leadership depth and succession plans.
- Drive alignment and execution. Partner with senior leaders on resources and company priorities. Coach teams to own their roadmaps, use rigorous experiments to resolve uncertainty, and distinguish incremental business impact from short-term metric gains.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
- 10+ years in product management, including substantial experience leading teams and developing senior PMs or in a scaled consumer business.
- A record of shaping company-level product strategy and delivering measurable growth and revenue outcomes across a portfolio. You can set direction, allocate resources, and make decisions with significant financial consequences.
- Deep experience in consumer subscriptions or freemium monetization, including pricing, packaging, conversion, and retention, plus meaningful experience in product-led growth or ad-supported experiences. You understand how these business models affect one another.
- Strong judgment about learner engagement and growth quality. You can evaluate cohorts, markets, and acquisition or engagement loops for their potential to create lasting customer value and sustainable revenue.
- Enough technical and commercial fluency in payments to lead a specialist PM, evaluate payment-funnel opportunities, and guide platform and partner decisions with Engineering and Finance.
- Excellent analytical and experimental judgment. You are comfortable with cohort analysis, lifetime value, funnel economics, and A/B testing, and can identify misleading wins caused by cannibalization, seasonality, or measurement gaps.
- A record of building effective organizations: hiring and developing talent, designing team responsibilities, coaching autonomous leaders, and planning for future management and capability needs.
- The ability to influence executives and cross-functional partners, resolve difficult priority conflicts, and communicate decisions clearly. You take responsibility for outcomes across the full portfolio.
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE:
- Experience growing both advertising and subscription revenue within the same consumer product.
- Experience scaling products internationally, including localization, market-specific pricing, and local payment methods.
- Experience in education or another consumer business with strong seasonal patterns, or applying behavioral insights to improve activation and retention.
