Job Description & Summary
About this role
PwC's UK Competition Economics team is seeking an experienced competition economist at Manager or Senior Manager level to join its growing practice. In this role, you will help clients navigate complex competition, regulatory and public policy issues, including market investigations, merger control, subsidy control, abuse of dominance cases, and broader regulatory matters.
You will apply strong economic and quantitative skills to analyse complex evidence and deliver clear, practical advice. Success in the role requires sound judgement, the ability to prioritise effectively in ambiguous situations, and experience leading teams to deliver high-quality work.
Working closely with senior clients and colleagues across PwC, you will build trusted relationships and bring together multidisciplinary expertise to solve client challenges. You will also contribute to business development, thought leadership, and the growth of both junior team members and the wider Competition Economics practice.
What your days will look like:
- Lead Competition Economics engagements across market investigations, merger control, subsidy control, and wider regulatory matters, delivering high-quality outcomes for clients.
- Structure and solve complex economic challenges by combining economic, financial, quantitative, commercial, and policy evidence to develop robust, evidence-based conclusions.
- Manage projects through ambiguity, applying sound judgement, prioritising effectively, and overcoming barriers to maintain delivery momentum.
- Build trusted client relationships, leading day-to-day engagement and translating complex analysis into clear, actionable advice for senior stakeholders.
- Collaborate across PwC, bringing together multidisciplinary expertise while leading, coaching, and developing junior team members.
- Contribute to the growth of the Competition Economics practice through business development, thought leadership, proposal support, and the development of new client offerings.
This role is for you if:
- Proven experience in competition economics, gained within an economics consultancy, regulator, competition authority, or similar environment.
- Strong expertise in microeconomics and applied competition economics, with experience advising on market studies, investigations, merger control, subsidy control, abuse of dominance, or related regulatory matters.
- Excellent quantitative, financial, and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise diverse evidence into clear, robust conclusions.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex and ambiguous problems using structured thinking, sound judgement, and a focus on high-quality delivery.
- Strong project and people leadership skills, including managing competing priorities, leading teams, and driving successful outcomes.
- Outstanding communication and relationship-building abilities, with experience engaging senior stakeholders, collaborating across functions, and coaching and developing colleagues.
