Community Based Endocrinologist - Dartmouth

Nova Scotia Healthcare System · Dartmouth, NS, Canada

Division of Endocrinology, Nova Scotia Health Authority Central Zone

Opportunity Type:  Permanent (1)

Type of Remuneration:  FFS - Fee For Service

Start Date: January 2027

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a community-based adult endocrinologist to provide outpatient

consultative services in the Dartmouth community, as well as internal medicine hospital call

coverage at Dartmouth General Hospital (DGH) and inpatient consultative services on an as-needed

basis. Endocrinologists interested in providing general endocrinology care, while also participating in

an internal medicine call rota, are encouraged to apply.

DGH is an acute-care community hospital located within the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It has

recently expanded to 180 beds, including a busy eight (8) bed medical/surgical/cardiac intensive

care unit, with plans for a six (6) bed intermediate care unit and anticipated further growth in the

coming years. DGH has tremendous local support from the community, including the support of the

DGH Foundation, which is an indispensable resource for our hospital, helping to coordinate local

philanthropy to fund state-of-the-art equipment purchases.

It is our hope the successful candidate will bring an interest in improving how we deliver care. There

is growing opportunity for someone who wants to lead innovation in diabetes care at Dartmouth

General, and the group would be glad to support that work.

The successful candidate will be expected to run an outpatient clinic with a volume of patients

comparable to current group members. Call is shared equitably within our group, taking into account

other hospital commitments, but will be about 1 in 8. All physicians who participate in call are offered

the option to participate in interpretation of ECGs. The successful candidate will be expected to be a

resource for endocrinology expertise to our physician group and offer occasional inpatient

consultation if needed.

The successful candidate will be expected to accept an academic appointment to the Department of

Medicine at Dalhousie University. Academic rank will be dependent on qualifications and

experience. Dartmouth is a popular community site for students and residents from Dalhousie

Medical School. Teaching and supervision of these learners is expected. There is also an

expectation that the successful candidate will share in non-clinical hospital and group responsibilities

including education/M&M rounds, and participation in the IM/ICU group meetings. They will

additionally be appointed to the clinical division of Endocrinology in the Nova Scotia Health Central

Zone.

Remuneration for clinical work and teaching/supervision is fee-for-service, as per the Physician

Services Master Agreement of Nova Scotia, with guaranteed daily minimums for internal medicine

hospital service coverage as well as for clinic days. Additional monetary benefits such as some relief

from overhead and EMR expenses, and contributions for retirement savings are provided through

the physician master agreement.

Accountability and Reporting

All members of the internal medicine group at DGH are responsible to the central zone department

of medicine department head, and relevant clinical division leads; as well as the DGH site leadership

(Medical site lead and internal medicine site lead) for their professional responsibilities and quality of

practice, and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of Nova Scotia Health.

Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or

equivalent) in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and be eligible to be licensed with the College of

Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS). Membership with the Canadian Medical

Protective Association is required.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

Nova Scotia Health and the DGH Internal Medicine group value the strength that comes from a physician workforce that reflects a diverse range of life experiences, including indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, and disabled individuals. Applicants who belong to an equity-deserving group are encouraged to apply, and may self-identify for this to be included as a factor in the hiring process.

Application deadline November 18, 2026.

Application Process:

Please email your application by November 18, 2026 including a cover letter; curriculum vitae; and the
