Fractional Founding Designer

ABOUT THE ROLE
As the first designer at an early-stage AI recruiting startup, you will shape the product experience and establish design standards for the team. This fractional role is 10 to 20 hours per week, with ownership of key product surfaces and close collaboration with product and engineering.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Define the product's visual and interaction direction and create high-fidelity designs and prototypes.
- Establish design systems, standards, and documentation that support consistent implementation.
- Make product design decisions with limited information, then iterate based on user feedback.
- Partner with product and engineering to implement designs and work through technical constraints.
- Use user research, usability testing, and qualitative feedback to inform product decisions.
- Prepare designs for engineering handoff and contribute frontend implementation knowledge where useful.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- At least 3 years of experience designing and shipping consumer or B2B digital products end to end.
- An accessible portfolio with relevant product design work, shipped examples, and a clear account of the problem-solving process.
- Experience creating design systems, standards, and documentation for teams to use.
- Proficiency with Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD for high-fidelity mockups and prototypes.
- Experience collaborating directly with product and engineering teams, and iterating designs in response to user feedback.
- Startup or fractional design experience is helpful, as is familiarity with HTML and CSS.
