Systems Architect
Auria · Tampa, FL · hybrid
USD 160,000 to 200,000 a year
BCubed Engineering, an Auria company, is looking to hire a Systems Architect to join the team in our Tampa, FL office. This will be a hybrid role.
The program you will be supporting delivers interconnected software applications and platform for a globally distributed workforce. The system integrates edge, cloud, and TAK-based data for users at multiple global sites, including disconnected and low-bandwidth environments, to deliver Common Data Layer Systems, Common Operating Picture (COP) and Command and Control (C2) capabilities to mission commanders.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:
- Lead technical integration across the Agile Release Train (ART) vendor and product teams.
- Establish interface and schema-first contracts (API, event, and schema standards), interface control documents (ICDs), deployment contracts, and integration testing.
- Track integration issues through resolution, and escalate unresolved risks, conflicts, and decision points to the Solution Train Architect or Chief Engineer with clear options, impacts, and a recommended decision.
- Facilitate execution of the vision and capability delivery priorities set by the Government Program Manager, Chief Engineer, and Solution Train Architect.
- Gather and reconcile requirements across vendor teams.
- Develop enough understanding of each application to represent its workflows, dependencies, interfaces, and constraints.
- Proactively plan for future capabilities and integrations.
- Define and govern how independently developed applications and services interoperate across edge, cloud, and TAK-based environments, including disconnected and low-bandwidth operations.
- Research, evaluate, and guide technology-selection decisions against the full set of program requirements.
- Meet current mission needs while establishing a scalable, extensible foundation.
- Reduce avoidable rework, technical debt, and integration risk through early architectural analysis and deliberate tradeoffs.
- Define, maintain, and communicate the architectural runway for near- and long-term ART objectives.
- Partner with Product Management, Product Owners, Release Train Engineers, and product teams to turn mission priorities, technology-lifecycle needs, cross-team dependencies, technical debt, and nonfunctional requirements into sequenced enabler epics and features.
- Plan early enough to enable incremental delivery and keep platform, integration, security, performance, or scalability constraints from delaying product teams.
- Review team-level technical decisions against enterprise architecture and program objectives, and challenge them when warranted (for example, shared versus dedicated services, isolation boundaries, and coupling).
- Partner with the Platform Architect and Agile Team Leads to set platform requirements and review designs against mission, security, performance, and operational needs.
- Trace mission and user workflows end to end through applications, integrations, infrastructure, and data flows to find where capabilities may fall short.
- Recommend fixes at the right layer. Build working knowledge of Special Operations Forces (SOF) mission threads and end-user workflows, including by executing workflows hands-on, and turn what you learn into cross-team architectural recommendations.
- Contribute to PI Planning, dependency management, and release-readiness planning.
- Communicate current and future architecture through diagrams and MBSE models, at a high level for leadership and in detail for engineering teams.
- Work on-site with the government customer and build trust with government stakeholders and vendor teams.
WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:
- Mission-Driven Professional: Collaborative contributor motivated by the opportunity to develop cutting-edge solutions that protect and serve both the nation and the world.
- Active SECRET clearance and U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 8+ years of relevant technical experience.
- Proven success architecting and integrating complex, multi-team or multi-vendor systems, including defining interfaces, managing dependencies, and driving issues to closure.
- Prior System Architect, Solution Architect, Lead Engineer, or similar technical leadership role.
- Strong systems thinking: able to reason about failure modes, scaling limits, and tradeoffs across a whole system, and to distinguish product defects from implementation or operational issues.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority, facilitate consensus, and explain technical risk in plain language to executives, customers, and engineers.
- Familiarity with DoD security and compliance practices (RMF/ATO, STIGs, DoD 8140 baseline certification requirements).
- Current fluency in modern software technologies and design patterns, including: API-driven and event-driven integration, identity and access management, data persistence and caching, cloud and hybrid architectures, Kubernetes and OpenShift, containerization, GitOps, and operations in disconnected, intermittent, or contested environments.
- Willingness and ability to work on-site with the government customer in Tampa, FL.
WHAT THE TEAM PREFERS:
- Experience with model-based systems engineering (e.g., Cameo) and the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA).
- 12+ years of relevant technical experience.
- Experience with DoD cloud environments or multi-vendor DoD integration leadership.
- Experience mentoring and developing technical teams.
- Customer-facing or consulting experience.
- Experience in a leadership role on an Agile Release Team (ART).
- Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Architecture-focused certifications, such as SAFe (e.g., SAFe Architect or Practitioner) or a professional-level cloud architect certification.
- Platform certifications that demonstrate breadth across modern container platforms, such as CKA/CKAD or Red Hat OpenShift, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Master's degree in a technical field.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
