Consultant Life Sciences

Location: Diegem, Belgium

Do you enjoy combining technical expertise with customer engagement, helping pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies make the right automation decisions? As a Consultant Life Sciences at Emerson, you will advise customers across the Benelux, translate operational and regulatory needs into practical solutions, and provide technical direction from early concept and FEED through execution and handover.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

- Act as a trusted technical advisor for pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers, helping them translate business, process and regulatory requirements into automation solutions.

- Lead customer workshops, site assessments and technical discussions to identify requirements, evaluate options and develop solution concepts.

- Develop automation strategies, solution architectures and implementation roadmaps, considering technical feasibility, regulatory compliance, operational requirements and lifecycle costs.

- Support projects throughout their lifecycle, from concept development and Front End Engineering Design (FEED) to detailed engineering, system integration, testing, commissioning and handover.

- Guide multidisciplinary engineering teams, review technical designs and provide specialist engineering input when needed.

- Advise customers and project teams on cGMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, computer system validation and data integrity requirements, including ALCOA+ principles.

- Support risk assessments, change control, technical documentation and the review of customer validation requirements.

- Work closely with our Sales and Proposal teams to develop technical proposals, define project scope, prepare estimates and present solutions to customers.

- Explain technical recommendations and their business value to different stakeholders, from engineering specialists to senior management.

- Work with project leadership to identify technical risks, evaluate dependencies and ensure solutions remain aligned with customer expectations.

- Coordinate the technical handover to our Lifecycle Services department following project completion.

- Share your expertise with colleagues, mentor engineers and contribute to maintaining high engineering and quality standards.

An important part of your role will be helping customers make informed decisions before committing to a particular technical solution. You will need to understand not only what is technically possible, but also which approach makes sense for the customer's production environment, regulatory obligations and long term objectives.

For This Role, You Will Need:

- 10-15 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably including substantial experience within Life Sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals or another regulated process industry.

- Strong knowledge of industrial process automation and control systems, including DCS or PLC architectures, system integration and related applications.

- Experience in customer facing technical consulting, FEED, solution architecture or leading complex automation projects in GMP regulated environments.

- A solid understanding of cGMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, computer system validation and data integrity principles such as ALCOA+.

- Experience translating customer requirements into technical specifications, solution designs and executable engineering projects.

- The ability to lead technical discussions, facilitate workshops and provide guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams.

- A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, automation, instrumentation and control, chemical engineering or a related discipline. Equivalent relevant professional experience and qualifications will also be considered.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical subjects clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.

- Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Dutch and/or French would be an advantage.

- The position is based in Belgium and may require travel within the Benelux region, depending on project demands.

Additional Experience That Would Be Valuable

- Experience with Emerson DeltaV, SCADA systems, historians, batch applications or system integration.

- Familiarity with pharmaceutical processes such as CIP/SIP, sterile manufacturing and batch processing.

- Training or certification in GAMP 5, CSV, CQV, DeltaV, functional safety or industrial cybersecurity.
