About Legal 500
Legal 500 is a global legal market research, data and intelligence business. Our research helps corporate clients make informed decisions about legal representation and gives law firms insight into their market position, performance, and clients.
Beyond research, we’re building a growing data, benchmarking, market-intelligence and subscription service offering. We bring the legal market together through a global programme of events - awards ceremonies, conferences and roundtables that convene leading law firms, in-house teams and their advisers. And through Legal Business, our journalistic title, we deliver independent news, analysis and commentary on the business of law and the strategy, performance and leadership of the world’s leading law firms.
We are a growing, multi-site organisation, with colleagues working across research, data, technology, product, journalism, commercial and events in London, Leeds and Bristol.
About the Role
Our new Enterprise AI Product Owner will own the adoption and value of AI in how Legal 500 works. You'll use our enterprise AI tools, with Microsoft Copilot and the wider Microsoft 365 AI capability as the main platform. You'll recommend what should be built or adopted and why, put governance in place where none yet exists, and make sure people across the business use the tools well.
This is a business-facing product role that starts from how the business works, not a technical build role. Copilot is the primary tool of choice, but you'll also oversee the other AI tools the business adopts.
What you'll do
You'll sit centrally within our People & Business Operations function, reporting to the Director of People & Business Operations. Your remit covers the whole of Legal 500, not a single department. You'll:
- Own the roadmap and prioritised backlog for our enterprise AI opportunities, recommending what to build or adopt, what not to, and why. You'll write clear user stories and acceptance criteria and hold a consistent line with senior stakeholders when demand exceeds capacity.
- Start every opportunity from the end-to-end business process. You'll walk business owners through how work gets done today, often where no SOPs exist, map the pain points, coach them through mapping a future-state process, and find where Copilot, other AI tools or workflow changes will make a measurable difference.
- Personally configure, test and refine Copilot skills, agents and team workflows. You'll take ideas through proof of concept and pilot, then hand ownership of the output to the business owner.
- Design, implement and enforce AI governance from the ground up. This includes owning the intake and review process for new use cases, agents and workflows, working alongside our Data Protection Officer, Information Security and IT Operations
- Own our enterprise AI libraries: the register of approved tools and the libraries of approved agents, prompts, templates and shared workflows. You'll keep them curated, current and compliant, and avoid duplication between tools.
- Design and deliver upskilling yourself, including training sessions, guides, clinics and self-serve resources. You'll also lead AI working groups and champion networks.
- Spot common patterns across teams and bring them together on shared processes and solutions, so the same problem isn't solved many times.
- Define and track adoption and value, such as usage, time saved, quality and user confidence. You'll maintain an AI benefits register, report progress to senior stakeholders and feed role impact into workforce planning.
What we're looking for
Essential
- A process-led consulting approach, with a structured way of walking business owners through end-to-end processes, including where no SOPs existed
- Proven experience of setting up AI governance from scratch and enforcing it. This includes owning an intake and review process and working with specialists such as a Data Protection Officer and IT Operations
- Hands-on Microsoft Copilot experience: you've personally configured Copilot skills, agents or team workflows. Using Copilot, or overseeing someone else configuring it, isn't enough
- Strong product management skills: setting priorities, writing user stories, running a backlog and managing senior stakeholders well
- Experience of owning enterprise libraries or other centralised controls
- Experience of running enablement yourself: you've designed and delivered upskilling personally, without relying on an L&D team, and you're comfortable leading working groups
Desirable
- A genuine interest in enterprise efficiency and how people actually work, with a track record of bringing teams together on shared ways of working
- A background in internal transformation, process improvement or Microsoft 365/Copilot SME roles, ideally including evaluating, onboarding or governing other enterprise AI tools
- An understanding of professional services, publishing, legal markets or other knowledge-intensive environments
What this role isn't
- It isn't about owning AI models in production, and working with development teams isn't the main job. There will be occasional technical work, but if you're mainly motivated by software delivery, this probably isn't the role for you
- It isn't about running governance within someone else's framework, or handing enablement off to an L&D team. We need someone who has set these up and delivered them personally
