Electrical & Controls Engineer
Drogue · Washington, D.C. · onsite
Drogue is building the world's first offshore floating data centers. We're a small team tackling a massive, first-of-its-kind engineering challenge. If you thrive in ambiguity, love hard problems, and want to build something that's never been built before — keep reading.
We're not putting servers on a barge. We're engineering a new class of ocean-deployed infrastructure that generates its own power, recovers its own waste heat, stays on station in severe weather, all while serving customers with high reliability. This requires a mix of first principles engineering and repurposing of existing technologies from other industries.
You make the plant run. Our platform is a tightly coupled system of electrical, mechanical, and thermodynamic subsystems operating in a harsh, remote environment. As our Electrical & Controls Engineer, you'll own everything from power generation and distribution to the sensors, valves, controllers, and software that operate the plant.
You'll start hands-on and grow a team around this work as we scale. You'll also be outward-facing, leading vendor integrations for major equipment and working with customers to ensure our platform meets their requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Size and analyze electrical loads across the plant and data center, and specify generators, switchgear, and power distribution to meet them
- Design and own the plant control system: every sensor, valve, actuator, and controller, plus the code that runs them
- Build the supervisory system operators use to monitor and run the plant, including alarms, interlocks, and safe shutdown sequences
- Validate power output and quality delivered to customer equipment, and translate customer requirements into electrical and controls specifications
- Lead vendor integration and procurement for electrical and control equipment
- Plan and execute testing, commissioning, and qualification of electrical and control systems
Qualifications:
- B.S./M.S. in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience designing power systems and specifying generation and distribution equipment
- Hands-on experience programming industrial controllers and building supervisory control systems
- Experience taking systems from design through commissioning on complex hardware
- Comfort working across mechanical and thermal disciplines
- Experience in power plants, marine or offshore systems, and/or data center critical power
