PROJECT MANAGER I

FLSA Classification: Salary Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: $55,000 to $75,000

Reports To: President

Supervisory Responsibility: None

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Manager I plans, coordinates, and oversees safe, efficient environmental field work in accordance with Field Work Orders (FWOs), company procedures, client expectations, and regulatory requirements. This role connects Project Management, Field Operations, clients, vendors, contractors, and field personnel; ensures work is properly scheduled, staffed, equipped, documented, and completed; and provides field leadership and support as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Participate in field activities

- Prepare FWOs, schedules, drawings, permits, sampling requirements, site information, and other project documents before field work begins.

- Schedule and coordinate qualified personnel, vehicles, equipment, materials, lodging, and vendors;

- Perform or lead environmental sampling, monitoring, investigation, remediation, well installation, and related field services in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.

- Direct employees, temporary staff, and contractors; assign work, provide training and coaching, monitor performance, and reinforce accountability and professionalism.

- Maintain a safety-first work environment, verify required training and PPE, report incidents and unsafe conditions, and stop or delay work when necessary.

- Coordinate waste pickups and disposal; prepare, track, and retain manifests and supporting records through final disposition.

- Ensure timely submission of FWOs, field notes, sampling records, photographs, manifests, and other required documentation.

- Communicate project status, field conditions, deviations, equipment or personnel concerns, and recommended solutions to appropriate stakeholders.

ACCOUNTABILITY & PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Success is measured by safe, well-planned, adequately staffed and equipped field work that meets project requirements, is documented promptly, and is completed with minimal avoidable delays. The role is expected to anticipate needs, resolve issues, maintain an accurate field calendar, and keep project progressing.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required

- High school diploma or GED and relevant environmental, construction, industrial, or field-services experience.

- Valid driver’s license

- Ability to develop and/or execute FWOs, collect and document field information accurately, and communicate effectively with employees, contractors, clients, and Project Managers.

- Ability to work outdoors, operate or learn field equipment safely, manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and work independently or as part of a team.

Preferred

- Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, construction management, project management, or a related field.

- 40hr HAZWOPER certification;

- OCC Environmental Consultant, AST/UST Remover

- ASB/LBP Licenses

- Experience with environmental sampling or remediation, field equipment, waste manifests, project coordination, and leading crews or contractors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

- Project coordination, scheduling, organization, prioritization, and problem solving.

- Clear written and verbal communication with employees, clients, vendors, contractors, and regulators.

- Leadership, coaching, accountability, and collaborative decision-making.

- Environmental sampling, field documentation, basic equipment troubleshooting, and recognition of unusual or unsafe conditions.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn OES scheduling, project-management, documentation, and communication systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Work outdoors in varying weather and at construction, industrial, and environmental project sites, including uneven terrain.

- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials consistent with job requirements.

- Wear required PPE and work around vehicles, machinery, heavy equipment, and environmental sampling equipment.

- Travel between offices, project sites, client locations, vendors, and disposal facilities; overnight, extended hours, or weekend work may be required.
