Senior Product Manager - Fraud
Mercury · San Francisco, CA, New York, Portland, Oregon, within Canada or United States, United States · Remote option
Holds. Limits. Locks. Closures. The judicious use of these tools is designed to protect good customers. But if wielded maladroitly, good customers get entangled in unnecessary friction, burden our operations teams, and may become detractors and churn. At Mercury, we believe banking* should be empowering and seamless, not difficult, confusing, or stressful.
As a Product Manager for Fraud, you’ll build products that enable Mercury to master these tools and deftly balance customer experience with fraud prevention. You'll develop a deep understanding of our customers, their accounts, and our money movement products to build systems that protect our customers and Mercury from fraud. You’ll work cross-functionally to build products for both end users and internal risk teams that enable Mercury to provide a seamless and safe banking* experience.
We are looking for someone who can lead us in redefining how risk friction is used, measured, and optimized to unlock the seamless, magical banking* experience we believe is possible.
*Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.
What You'll Do:

- Design and execute on the strategic vision to mitigate fraud and improve risk experience at Mercury - including holds, limit structures, step-up verification, and related friction points
- Craft user journeys that apply appropriate friction based on risk signals while minimizing disruption to good users

- Partner with data science to develop, deploy, and continuously improve ML models
- Establish and track metrics that measure both risk effectiveness, operational, and customer experience impact
- Support the development of Mercury's risk capabilities to scale across our expanding product suite
What You Bring:
- 7+ years of relevant product management experience, including experience within fraud or risk in banking or fintech environments
- Deep customer empathy and understanding of how risk friction impacts user experience, growth and retention
- Experience working with complex automated decisioning systems, rules, ML models, real-time data pipelines
- Proficiency with analytics. An ability to understand performance or rules and ML models, trade-offs with precision/recall and translate understanding into actionable insights and priorities for your teams
- Strong track record of cross-functional leadership, particularly in navigating tradeoffs between risk, compliance, and customer experience priorities
- Exceptional communication skills that allow you to translate complex risk concepts into actionable product strategies
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to make balanced decisions with imperfect information
