Setting the Scene Our client is a leading Australian university undertaking a significant Cyber Security Improvement Program (CSIP) to strengthen cyber security maturity and resilience across its enterprise environment. The program is focused on delivering strategic uplift aligned to the Essential Eight and NIST frameworks, with key initiatives spanning application security, identity security and privileged access controls. This is an opportunity for an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to play a hands-on role in implementing and operationalising security controls across a complex enterprise environment, contributing directly to a major cyber security transformation program through to December 2027.
The Role As the Cyber Security Engineer, you’ll support the implementation, configuration and operationalisation of cyber security solutions and controls delivered through the CSIP program. You’ll work across a broad range of security initiatives including Essential Eight uplift, application control, application patching and hardening, Privileged Access Management (PAM), Identity Governance & Administration (IGA), identity security and cloud security.
Key responsibilities: - Implement and operationalise cyber security solutions and controls across a complex enterprise environment
- Support cyber security initiatives aligned to Essential Eight uplift and NIST security maturity objectives
- Implement and manage Privileged Access Management (PAM) capabilities, including BeyondTrust
- Support Privileged Identity Management and broader Identity & Access Management initiatives
- Implement and support Identity Governance & Administration (IGA) solutions, including SailPoint
- Deliver security controls across application control, application patching and application hardening
- Configure and support technologies including Airlock Digital and Patch My PC
- Work across Microsoft Azure and cloud-based security environments
- Support SSO, authentication and identity security technologies
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across cyber security platforms and controls
- Assist with the integration of security solutions into existing technology environments
- Support the transition of newly implemented controls into ongoing operational processes
- Work closely with cyber security, infrastructure, applications and technology teams
- Provide technical input into cyber security uplift initiatives and solution design
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of security controls, processes and technical capabilities
- Ensure security solutions are implemented in a practical, sustainable and operationally effective manner
What you'll bring - Strong hands-on capability implementing and operationalising cyber security controls within complex enterprise environments
- Solid technical background across IAM, PAM and IGA, including BeyondTrust and SailPoint
- Strong understanding of SSO, authentication and identity security, with practical experience across Microsoft Azure / Entra ID
- Demonstrated capability delivering application control, patching and hardening initiatives
- Exposure to Airlock Digital and/or Patch My PC will be highly regarded
- Good understanding of the Essential Eight and/or NIST Cybersecurity Framework
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving capability across cyber security platforms and controls
- Ability to integrate security solutions into existing technology environments and transition new controls into BAU operations
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across cyber security, infrastructure, applications and broader technology teams
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within a large-scale cyber security transformation program
Experience delivering cyber security transformation, Essential Eight uplift, NIST maturity initiatives or identity security programs will be highly regarded.
