Our client is an international Technology Solutions provider delivering Software solutions to the Automotive Industry and we are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer with Java Spring Boot, Microservices, AWS and relational databases. While strong technical expertise is the primary focus, automotive domain experience is highly desirable but not essential.
About the role
As the full-time Senior Backend Engineer, you'll join a growing technology team. This strategic role will play a crucial part in designing, developing and maintaining robust backend systems. Based on-site with our client in Melbourne. This position offers the opportunity to lead backend development initiatives, mentor junior engineers and contribute to the architectural decisions that drive the platform forward. You will work on scalable systems that power services and have a direct impact on the business success.
What you'll be doing
- Design and develop scalable backend systems and APIs that support our core platform functionality.
- Lead code reviews and establish best practices for backend development across the team.
- Architect solutions for complex technical challenges, considering performance, security, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
- Mentor and support junior developers, providing guidance on technical approaches and professional development.
- Optimise database queries and system performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
- Participate in technical planning sessions and contribute to strategic technology decisions.
- Document systems architecture and technical specifications to ensure team knowledge sharing.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement long-term solutions.
What we're looking for
- Minimum 5+ years of professional backend development experience with proven expertise in server-side application development.
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
- Solid understanding of database design, SQL and experience with both relational and SQL databases.
- Demonstrated experience with RESTful API design and implementation
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and containerisation. technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of software design patterns, SOLID principles and clean code practices.
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
- Experience with microservices architecture, distributed systems and agile development methodologies (preferred).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience liaising with offshore teams in India and multilingual skills highly regarded.
