AYN

Sr. Director, Information Technology and Systems

ICON · Austin, Texas, United States · onsite

ICON is looking for a Senior Director of Information Technology and Systems to build and own a unified technology strategy across a fast-growing, multi-division company. You will lead ICON's corporate IT, infrastructure, and information security functions, ensuring our technology stack drives business innovation, protects our systems and data, and scales with the company.

ICON operates across Construction, Technology, and Public Sector divisions, and builds robotic construction systems that are themselves connected, networked products. That makes this role broader than a typical corporate IT seat. You will define the boundary between our enterprise environment and our product environment, set the strategy for commercial and government-regulated work, and scale support through automation and smart architecture rather than headcount ratios as ICON grows significantly over the next two years.

You'll be a senior voice in executive decisions about technology. When leadership weighs a major choice, such as moving infrastructure on-premises or extending government-grade controls across the company, you'll lay out the cost, resourcing, risk, and second- and third-order impacts so the decision is made with full context, and you'll push back when the tradeoffs warrant it.

This role is a full-time, on-site position based at ICON's Austin, TX HQ Campus and will report to the President.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and leadership

- Lead and develop the IT, infrastructure, and security teams, including hiring and developing team leads, setting operating principles, and defining service level agreements.

- Own the multi-year roadmap for AI tooling and core digital infrastructure, aligned to ICON's divisional strategies and growth plans.

- Advise executive leadership on major technology decisions, presenting cost, resourcing, security, and organizational impacts in decision terms.

- Lead change management for company-wide technology shifts, including potential expansion of government-regulated environments across the business.

- Define clear ownership models for systems and roles that span corporate and divisional needs, deciding what lives in central IT versus within the teams it supports.

- Deliver data-driven insights and technology performance reporting (ticket trends, automation impact, cost, and risk) to executive leadership on a regular basis.

Corporate IT and infrastructure

- Oversee all corporate IT functions, including end-user support, device management and procurement, SaaS platforms, identity and access management, and enterprise system integrations.

- Scale IT support efficiently as the company grows, using automation and self-service to keep support ratios lean.

- Partner with People and Recruiting on hiring forecasts so equipment, access, and onboarding are ready for every new hire.

- Oversee cloud and on-premises infrastructure across multiple regions, ensuring reliability, performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

- Guide build-versus-buy and SaaS-versus-on-premises decisions, making ownership and support costs explicit before commitments are made.

- Lead vendor management, licensing, and technology procurement to maximize value and minimize risk.

- Partner with data and analytics teams to ensure enterprise systems and infrastructure support cross-functional business intelligence needs.

Security and compliance

- Own ICON's information security posture across corporate and product environments, including network segmentation between enterprise systems and connected product systems.

- Ensure compliance with relevant frameworks and standards, including those required for government contracting, and oversee secure environments such as virtual desktop infrastructure for government work.

- Demonstrate security and compliance credibility to public sector stakeholders, including government program partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- 12+ years of progressive experience leading technology or information organizations, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple teams through managers or team leads.

- 5+ years of experience leading technology teams in regulatory complex environments.

- Proven track record managing corporate IT at scale, including enterprise systems, end-user computing, and IT operations, through a period of significant company growth.

- Experience overseeing infrastructure and security teams, with working knowledge of network segmentation, cloud platforms, on-premises infrastructure, and the shared responsibility model.

- Proficiency with cybersecurity frameworks and compliance requirements.

- Demonstrated ability to influence executive decisions, build business cases, and push back with data.

- Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

- Experience supporting or working within a government contracting environment, including standing up or expanding regulated enclaves.

- Experience securing and supporting connected products (IoT, industrial controls, or robotics) alongside a corporate environment.

- Track record of using automation to scale IT support without proportional headcount growth.

- Exposure to enterprise data platforms (such as Palantir Foundry) and the integrations, identity, and infrastructure they depend on.

- Strong program management skills, including the ability to set priorities across multiple teams and deliver concurrent initiatives on schedule.

- Ability to communicate technical concepts and tradeoffs clearly to non-technical executives and business stakeholders.

- Comfort operating in a fast-moving, innovative environment. Experience in construction technology, advanced manufacturing, or deep tech is a plus.
