About the Role
The media production specialist supports PTC’s in-house production team with an emphasis on audio engineering for studio, on-location, live, and virtual productions. This role combines hands-on audio expertise with broader video production, technical troubleshooting, and project coordination responsibilities. The role works closely with producers, presenters, editors, and technical stakeholders to provide responsive, white-glove production support from intake through final delivery.
Primary Responsibilities
- Own audio preparation and execution for studio, on-location, live, and virtual productions, including signal flow, microphone selection and placement, gain staging, routing, monitoring, and recording.
- Mix and monitor dialogue, music, playback, remote contributors, and program feeds to maintain clear, consistent, broadcast-quality sound.
- Troubleshoot noise, interference, latency, sync, connectivity, acoustics, and other audio issues before and during production.
- Edit, clean, mix, and master recorded audio using equalization, compression, noise reduction, loudness standards, and other post-production techniques.
- Support camera, lighting, teleprompter, streaming, and recording systems as part of a collaborative video production crew.
- Coordinate with producers, editors, presenters, and business stakeholders to identify technical needs, build production plans, and conduct audio checks and rehearsals.
- Support executive recordings, interviews, webinars, podcasts, live or hybrid events, and other high-visibility productions with a calm, service-oriented approach.
- Maintain microphones, mixers, wireless systems, recorders, cabling, accessories, and related production infrastructure and equipment, including inventory and readiness checks.
- Perform technical quality-control reviews for clarity, synchronization, loudness, channel configuration, accessibility, and delivery specifications.
- Create and improve audio standards, signal-flow documentation, studio procedures, troubleshooting guides, and training resources for the team and self-service studio users.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in audio engineering, video production, broadcast, film, communications, media, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Two or more years of hands-on experience in audio engineering, video production, studio operations, broadcast, live events, or post-production.
- Strong understanding of audio signal flow, microphone types and placement, mixers, wireless systems, digital audio, acoustics, gain structure, and monitoring.
- Proficiency with professional audio and video editing software, multitrack workflows, synchronization, noise reduction, mixing, mastering, and common media formats.
- Working knowledge of cameras, lighting, teleprompters, streaming platforms, conferencing tools, and studio production workflows.
- Ability to diagnose technical issues quickly and communicate clear solutions during time-sensitive productions.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and stakeholders.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, responsive, service-oriented approach.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and set up production equipment and occasionally work outside normal business hours for scheduled productions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience engineering audio for executive communications, interviews, webinars, live or hybrid events, podcasts, and customer-facing content.
- Experience with digital mixing consoles, Dante or other audio-over-IP workflows, wireless frequency coordination, intercom systems, remote contribution tools, and live streaming.
- Familiarity with loudness standards, audio restoration, sound design, music editing, motion graphics, photography, or virtual production tools.
- Familiarity with review and approval platforms, digital asset management systems, project-management tools, and cloud-based collaboration workflows.
