Strategic Sourcing Manager – Power Equipment and Electronics

Mission Critical Group · United States · remote

Mission Critical Group (MCG) is an end-to-end power solutions and services provider that accelerates time-to-power and delivers scalable, resilient infrastructure for mission critical environments. By integrating engineering, manufacturing, modular deployment, and lifecycle services under one platform, we streamline execution and bring complex projects online faster - without compromising performance. With a robust U.S. manufacturing network, MCG supports data centers, power generation, healthcare, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and industrial facilities where uptime is non-negotiable. Mission Critical Group designs, manufactures and provides value-added services for customers requiring critical power solutions. Powering a new electric world for a brighter, more secure future.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager – Power Equipment and Electronics develops and executes enterprise category strategies for critical electrical and electronic components supporting MCG product platforms, including low- and medium-voltage switchgear and switchboards, e-houses, skids, power-generation control packages, transformer-related products, and other engineered power solutions. The role translates enterprise demand into sourcing, capacity, channel, alternate-source, and supply-continuity strategies that improve supplier performance, reduce total cost, and mitigate long-lead, allocation, obsolescence, and supply risks.

This is a high-impact individual contributor position with the authority, visibility, and executive presence expected of a senior sourcing leader. The position owns more than $100 million in direct material spend and serves as MCG's commercial leader and subject-matter expert for the assigned categories.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

- LV and MV circuit breakers, including molded-case, power/air, and vacuum breakers, plus drawout cradles, trip units, controls, accessories, and equivalent configurations.

- Protection and control equipment, including protective relays, digital protection systems, instrument transformers, sensing components, and associated hardware.

- Key interlock and trapped-key safety systems, including breaker integration, sequencing components, and related accessories.

- Control, distribution, dry-type, instrument, and other transformer categories with enterprise sourcing potential.

- Digital controls, control-power components, metering, monitoring, communications hardware, and related accessories.

- Other categories as assigned

Key Business Outcomes:

- Material Productivity

- Strategic Supplier Delivery, Quality & Performance

- Category Strategy, Capacity & Supply Continuity

Accountabilities:

Category Strategy & Market Intelligence

- Develop and execute enterprise category strategies aligned with MCG backlog, commercial pipeline, product platforms, engineering standards, project timing, and manufacturing requirements.

- Maintain consolidated demand and market views covering forecasts, historical demand, lead times, product lifecycles, technology changes, supplier capacity, channel availability, pricing, and geopolitical risk.

- Develop category roadmaps defining preferred suppliers, qualified alternatives, sourcing gaps, lifecycle risks, annual milestones, required approvals, and executive reporting.

Strategic Sourcing & Commercial Leadership

- Lead enterprise sourcing events, supplier evaluations, negotiations, contracting strategies, and supplier-selection recommendations for assigned categories.

- Negotiate master supply and long-term agreements, special-pricing programs, capacity commitments, stocking and inventory programs, warranties, rebates, and commercial terms governing changes, cancellations, rescheduling, and inventory liability.

- Aggregate spend and demand across MCG operating companies and COEs and deliver validated purchase-price improvement, cost avoidance, productivity, and TCO reductions through implementation, compliance, renewal management, and financial validation.

Cost Engineering & Value Creation

- Develop supplier cost breakdowns, should-cost models, competitive benchmarks, and total-landed-cost analyses covering electronics, metals, conversion, labor, freight, duty, overhead, payment terms, inventory, and lifecycle exposure.

- Distinguish market-driven cost changes from supplier-controlled conversion costs and commercial premiums; implement indexed or formula-based pricing where commercially appropriate.

- Partner with Engineering, Operations, Estimating, and Finance on design-to-cost, value engineering, preferred-component architecture, specification optimization, component standardization, and savings validation.

Demand-to-Capacity, Allocation & Supply Continuity

- Convert sales pipeline, backlog, bills of material, manifests, project timing, and long-lead requirements into component-demand forecasts, OEM and channel capacity plans, sourcing allocations, and project or program priorities.

- Secure and govern forward capacity commitments, reserved-capacity utilization, allocation entitlement, forecast coverage, supplier commitments, escalation triggers, and recovery milestones when forecast and supply diverge.

- Develop dual-source, multi-source, contingency, strategic-inventory, demand-backed pre-buy, supplier-stocking, distributor-stocking, and long-lead buffer strategies that reduce sole-source, allocation, obsolescence, and continuity exposure.

Engineering, Product & Alternate-Qualification Collaboration

- Partner with Engineering to establish preferred components and qualified alternatives across assigned categories while preserving Engineering and Quality ownership of technical and qualification approvals.

- Lead the commercial aspects of cross-reference and alternate-product strategies and support evaluations involving form, fit, function, ratings, customer specifications, certifications, firmware, lifecycle, and product transitions.

- Integrate sourcing earlier into proposals, product configuration, design release, new-product introduction, and engineering changes to improve standardization and the timely ordering of long-lead components.

Supplier Relationship, Quality & Performance Management

- Serve as MCG's enterprise commercial relationship owner for assigned strategic OEMs, distributors, and channel partners and maintain appropriate supplier executive relationships.

- Lead QBRs, plant visits, capacity reviews, scorecards, corrective actions, audits, investment and expansion discussions, recovery plans, and escalation governance covering delivery, quality, responsiveness, technology, service, risk, and commercial performance.

- Partner with Supplier Quality, Engineering, Operations, and COE teams to close capability gaps, qualify suppliers and alternatives, improve incoming quality, and deliver sustainable supplier-performance recovery.

Channel Strategy & Inventory Programs

- Develop enterprise, regional, and COE-specific channel strategies governing the use of OEM-direct, national-distributor, regional-distributor, and project-specific sources.

- Align manufacturer and distributor pricing, authorized-channel requirements, stocking, releases, VMI, consignment, and program-specific inventory with validated backlog and pipeline.

- Establish governance for cancellations, rescheduling, inventory liability, excess and obsolete materials, last-time buys, product obsolescence, and working-capital exposure.

Cross-Functional Execution & Business Integration

- Provide indirect leadership to COE sourcing and purchasing professionals, aligning priorities and driving execution of enterprise category, channel, capacity, and material-productivity strategies while COE teams retain transactional purchasing responsibility.

- Lead MCG-sponsored initiatives through validated COE execution while supporting COE-led initiatives required to achieve business-unit goals; provide category input for major proposals, customer commitments, contract reviews, SIOP, and clear-to-build readiness.
