Coffee Training Manager
Excel Fitness · Raleigh, North Carolina, United States
Position: Training Manager
Reports to: Senior Manager of Operational Excellence
Department: Coffee Operations
Who We Are:
Bangarang Coffee delivers energy beyond the cup. For people on the move, and for whatever comes next.
We're an emerging brand built around more than great coffee. We're creating an experience centered on connection, quality, and genuine hospitality. As an early member of the team, you'll help shape our culture, our guest experience, and where this brand goes from here.
We're looking for people who thrive in a fast-paced environment, love building something from the ground up, and take pride in creating exceptional experiences for guests and teammates alike. If you're energized by growth, innovation, and being part of a team defining what's next, we'd love to have you join us on the journey.
Purpose: The Training Manager owns the execution and quality of Bangarang's training program. This field first leadership role leads the Trainer team, prepares new locations to open, develops future Trainers, and ensures every Trainee receives consistent, hands on training in Bangarang's operations, service, safety standards, and vibe. Success in this role means every Trainee can perform their positions safely and independently before sign off, risks are surfaced before they become opening day problems, and each new location's leadership is ready to take full ownership when the training team leaves.
Duties and Responsibilities:
New Location Training
- Own the training plan for each new location from pre-opening preparation through the transition to regular operations.
- Build and manage the training schedule, including Trainer assignments, Trainee groups, station rotations, and daily priorities.
- Confirm that training materials, systems, equipment, product, uniforms, system access, and other required resources are ready before training begins.
- Lead orientation, hands on training, mock service, community events, friends and family service, soft openings, and grand openings.
- Maintain a strong onsite presence during the most critical stages of training and opening.
- Identify readiness risks early and work with Operations and location leadership to resolve them.
- Lead the final training handoff to the location's management team, including a clear picture of each Trainee's readiness.
Trainer Leadership
- Recruit, select, certify, schedule, and develop Bangarang Trainers, maintaining a ready bench for upcoming openings and field assignments.
- Set clear expectations for conduct, communication, coaching, attendance, and operational performance.
- Lead daily Trainer huddles and end of day debriefs during openings, and hold regular one on one check ins with each Trainer.
- Coach Trainers on how to teach, correct, encourage, redirect, and hold Trainees accountable.
- Address Trainer performance or conduct concerns promptly and professionally, partnering with the People team as needed.
- Support the Trainer team through the long hours, pressure, and changing demands of new openings, including monitoring workload and time worked.
Training Quality and Consistency
- Ensure every Trainee is trained to the same Bangarang standards, regardless of Trainer or location.
- Protect recipe accuracy, drink quality, speed, hospitality, cleanliness, safety, and operational flow throughout training.
- Ensure training covers every required position, including Lane/Window, Texter, Milk, Shots, Rescue, Expo, Drink Runner, and Walk-Up.
- Maintain accurate skill checklists, position sign offs, training records, assessments, and certification requirements.
- Calibrate Trainers so they coach and evaluate performance consistently, and observe training in real time to correct gaps.
- Ensure no Trainee is signed off because opening day is approaching; sign off reflects demonstrated, independent performance only.
- Reinforce the reasons behind Bangarang's standards, not just the steps.
Operational Partnership
- Partner closely with Operations, People, location leadership, and support teams throughout each opening.
- Keep leadership informed of Trainee progress, attendance concerns, operational gaps, safety issues, and opening risks.
- Prepare location leaders to continue coaching and developing their teams after the Trainers leave.
- Visit existing locations to evaluate training quality, retrain standards, and support ongoing development.
- Assist with leadership development and other company training initiatives as needed.
Continuous Improvement
- Gather feedback from Trainers, Trainees, and location leadership after each opening.
- Complete a post-opening recap identifying wins, gaps, recurring issues, and recommended changes.
- Track training results, identify trends across locations, and improve schedules, materials, assessments, and processes based on field results.
- Partner with Operational Excellence to keep training materials aligned with current recipes, systems, equipment, and operating standards.
