Position Purpose
The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position assists with maintaining high standards of customer service, merchandising, inventory control, product availability, department conditions, and associate performance. The Assistant Grocery Manager helps ensure the department operates efficiently while meeting company standards for safety, sanitation, quality, and profitability.
Duties and Responsibilities Department Operations
- Assist with the overall operation of the Grocery Department.
- Support the Grocery Manager in executing daily department priorities and maintaining operational standards.
- Ensure shelves are stocked, organized, properly faced, and maintained throughout the day.
- Monitor product availability and assist with replenishment to minimize out-of-stocks.
- Assist with receiving, stocking, rotating, and organizing merchandise.
- Maintain accurate pricing, signing, and product presentation.
- Help ensure promotional displays, endcaps, and merchandising plans are executed appropriately.
Inventory & Product Management
- Assist with ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
- Monitor inventory movement and support efforts to reduce shrink, damage, and product loss.
- Follow proper product rotation and inventory-control procedures.
- Help identify inventory discrepancies and communicate concerns to department or store leadership.
- Maintain organized backroom and storage areas.
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, professional, and knowledgeable service to customers.
- Assist customers with locating products and answering questions.
- Respond promptly to customer concerns and help resolve issues appropriately.
- Promote a positive shopping experience by maintaining clean, stocked, and organized sales areas.
Associate Leadership
- Assist with directing and prioritizing the daily work of Grocery Department associates.
- Provide associates with clear expectations, coaching, and operational guidance.
- Support training and development of new and existing associates.
- Help maintain appropriate department coverage based on business needs.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
Safety, Sanitation & Compliance
- Ensure department areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
- Follow company policies, procedures, food-safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, rotation, and disposal of merchandise.
- Identify and address potential safety hazards.
- Support compliance with company loss-prevention and asset-protection practices.
