Job Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President of Finance & Accounting provides leadership and oversight of accounting operations, financial reporting, treasury, tax compliance, internal controls, audit coordination, and financial systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial information, safeguarding organizational assets, maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, supporting the annual budget process, and leading scalable financial operations that support organizational growth and performance. Serves as a key partner to executive and operational leadership while overseeing the finance and accounting team and ensuring the effective execution of financial reporting, treasury, internal controls, audit activities, tax compliance, and financial systems.
The ideal candidate combines leadership capability with strong technical accounting expertise and a willingness to remain actively involved in the operational details of the finance function.
Job Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
• Direct and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, lease accounting, and financial close processes.
• Ensure the timely, accurate, and complete preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports across all organizational entities.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and governance standards that ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), promote consistency, and support organizational accountability.
• Oversee the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Develop and maintain financial reporting metrics, dashboards, and management reports to support organizational oversight and decision-making.
Treasury & Cash Management
• Oversee treasury operations, banking relationships, cash management activities, and related financial services across the organization.
• Assist in managing compliance with debt agreements, banking requirements, and treasury-related policies.
• Develop and maintain controls designed to safeguard organizational cash and financial assets.
• Assist in cash management activities associated with payroll, retirement plans, health and welfare benefits, and other employee benefit programs to ensure timely funding, accurate disbursement, and effective financial stewardship.
Internal Controls, Compliance & Audit
• Establish and maintain the organization's internal control framework, financial policies, and procedures to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and promote operational accountability.
• Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and coordinate all financial and employee benefit audit activities.
• Oversee preparation of audit schedules, supporting documentation, management responses, and implementation of audit recommendations.
Tax Compliance & Reporting
• Oversee all federal, state, and local tax reporting and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and filing requirements.
• Coordinate the preparation, review, and filing of income tax, partnership tax, franchise tax, sales and use tax, property tax, and other required tax returns.
• Manage relationships with external tax advisors, tax preparation firms, and regulatory agencies.
• Coordinate responses to tax audits, examinations, and information requests from taxing authorities. Maintain tax calendars, filing schedules, and supporting documentation.
Budget Administration & Financial Operations Support
• Coordinate and administer the annual operating and capital budget process in partnership with department and operational leaders.
• Monitor financial performance against approved budgets and provide reporting and analysis to support accountability and decision-making.
• Support organizational planning and decision-making through financial reporting, budget analysis, and operational performance insights.
• Assist in the processing of the Medicare Cost Reports and other operational reporting requirements.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement
• Oversee financial systems administration, optimization, and governance activities.
• Ensure financial systems effectively support organizational growth, reporting requirements, and compliance obligations.
Leadership & Team Development
• Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing finance and accounting team through effective leadership, coaching, and performance management.
• Promote accountability, collaboration, succession planning, and continuous professional development.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
• Healthcare industry experience required.
• Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 12 years of progressive accounting, finance, or treasury experience, including at least 7 years in leadership roles overseeing accounting, financial reporting, treasury, audit, tax compliance, and related finance functions.
• Experience managing multi-entity organizations, consolidated financial reporting, annual financial statement audits, internal control environments, and financial management systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, and regulatory compliance, with demonstrated ability to design and maintain effective financial control environments.
• Knowledge of tax compliance, audit coordination, and reporting requirements.
• Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to present complex financial information clearly to executive leadership and other stakeholders.
• Experience leading teams through organizational growth, process improvement, and change initiatives.
• Advanced proficiency with financial systems, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, accountability, and financial stewardship.
