Finance Manager

Nexl · NSW, Australia, Australia · hybrid

Nexl is looking for a Finance Manager to own the engine room of our finance function. Working closely with the Head of Finance, you will run our month-end close, keep audit and compliance obligations across our Australian and US entities on track, and make sure our core finance workflows (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking and reconciliations) run accurately and on time.

Finance sits within Nexl’s Business Operations (BizOps) function, which is led by the VP Strategy & Operations. This is a hands-on role with real breadth. Beyond the numbers, you will support BizOps with operations workflows, help roll out new technology, and spot the manual processes worth fixing or automating.

AI is central to how our finance team works. We expect you to use AI tools by default to speed up reconciliations, reporting, analysis and documentation, and to help define where AI can safely remove manual effort and where human judgement and controls must stay firmly in place.

ResponsibilitiesMust haves:

- Chartered Accountant (CA) qualified.

- 3-5 years of finance or accounting experience, ideally in B2B SaaS or other high-growth environment.

- Solid working knowledge of accounting standards, including revenue and cost recognition, and familiarity with subscription billing.

- Hands-on across month-end close, AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations and multi-entity reporting.

- Proficient in using AI tools to speed up reconciliations, reporting, analysis and documentation.

- Comfortable rolling out new technology, improving workflows and picking up new tools quickly.

- High attention to detail, with the discipline to hit close deadlines and keep clean audit trails.

- Clear communicator who can work with auditors, finance peers and non-finance leaders.

- Comfortable operating in a scaling environment where problems aren’t always clearly defined and ownership matters.

Nice to haves:

- Big 4 experience, which we view favourably.

- Experience with Xero or similar cloud accounting platforms, and subscription billing systems.

- Exposure to multi-entity or cross-border (Australia and US) reporting.

- System implementation experience will be viewed favorably

- Experience in LegalTech or other professional-services software environments.

Requirements- Month-end close: Own the month-end close, delivering journals, accruals, prepayments, deferred revenue recognition and cost allocations, balance sheet reconciliations, management accounts and variance analysis accurately and to an agreed timetable.

- Multi-entity reporting: Manage reporting and bank reconciliations across our Australian and US entities, ensuring revenue and costs are recognised in line with the appropriate accounting standards.

- Accounts payable and receivable: Run AP and AR end to end, including invoicing, collections follow-up, supplier payments and approvals, and aged debtor and creditor reporting.

- Payroll and treasury: Support payroll processing and changes, banking and day-to-day cash management, keeping approvals and controls tight as the business grows.

- Audit and compliance: Keep the business audit-ready, acting as day-to-day contact for external auditors and advisors, and keep statutory and tax obligations on track (GST/BAS, payroll tax, superannuation and R&D filings) with our external bookkeeper and advisors.

- Internal controls: Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls and documentation so audit evidence is clean, current and easy to produce.

- Partnering with the Head of Finance: Work with the Head of Finance to support the needs of the business, including budgeting and forecasting inputs, board and investor reporting support, and ad-hoc analysis for leaders across the company.

- Process improvement: Identify and implement improvements that reduce manual work, strengthen controls and lift the quality of the data flowing into reporting and planning.

- AI-enabled finance: Use AI tools to automate reconciliation and data-preparation tasks, draft commentary and documentation, and work with large data sets, while keeping appropriate human review in place.

- Technology rollout: Work with Head of Finance to help select, implement and embed new finance and business systems, including testing, data migration, documentation and training for the wider team.

- BizOps operations: Support BizOps with operations workflows such as vendor onboarding, spend approvals and payroll changes, partnering with People, Legal and business leaders.
