RequirementsThe role:
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Backend Team Lead to lead a team of engineers responsible for maintaining, evolving, and scaling mission-critical backend systems that power real-time and on-demand experiences for millions of users. You will ensure high availability, performance, reliability, and security across a large-scale production environment while continuously improving the platform to meet growing business and customer needs.
In this managerial role, you will be responsible for driving technical strategy, architectural decisions, execution, and operational excellence, while leading and mentoring a team of backend engineers. You will work closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and QA teams to define scalable solutions, execute on the engineering roadmap, and deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing services.
The day-to-day:
- Make key architectural and technology decisions, ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable solutions across the backend ecosystem.
- Own the team's technical roadmap and execution, balancing business priorities, technical excellence, and long-term platform investments.
- Remain hands-on by contributing to development, code reviews, technical design discussions, and resolution of complex production issues.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Architects, DevOps, and QA to translate business needs into high-quality technical solutions.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of backend engineers, fostering technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Ideally, we're looking for:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 4 years of experience in engineering management or team leadership roles.
- Proven experience leading the development and operation of large-scale distributed applications in production environments.
- Strong hands-on backend development experience with at least one of the following languages: TypeScript, PHP, Python, Java, or C++. Experience working with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and modern CI/CD practices and tools.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability, performance optimization, application security, caching strategies, and database technologies such as Redis, OpenSearch, MySQL, and MongoDB.
- B.Sc. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
These would also be nice:
- Experience with WebRTC, real-time communication, live streaming, or media delivery platforms (a significant advantage).
- Experience with data platforms, event-driven architectures, analytics systems, or other data-intensive applications.
- Experience working with React and modern frontend technologies.
