The Compound Manager is responsible for setting up, operating and demobilising the Sport Signage compound at assigned Formula 1 events.
The compound is the operational base that supports installation, off-track build, logistics and event teams with controlled access to equipment, materials, working areas and support resources.
The Operations Manager remains accountable for the event as a whole; the Compound Manager owns compound setup, operation, standards and associated resources.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
1. Pre-Event Compound Planning
- Understand event requirements, venue constraints, access windows and the expected compound footprint.
- Plan layout for storage, work areas, vehicle access, equipment staging, waste and team support needs.
- Confirm required infrastructure, equipment, signage, lighting/power interfaces and other support requirements with the Operations Manager.
2. Setup & Readiness
- Lead compound setup in line with the event programme.
- Ensure the compound is operationally ready before installation and build teams depend on it.
- Establish clear zones, access routes, storage areas and housekeeping standards.
3. Day-to-Day Compound Operations
- Maintain an orderly, safe and functional compound throughout the event.
- Coordinate access, internal movements, storage discipline, equipment staging and daily reset/housekeeping.
- Ensure high-priority items are accessible and that the compound supports rather than slows event delivery.
4. Inventory & Asset Interface
- Work with Inventory & Asset Management to understand what has been issued to the event.
- Maintain practical control and visibility of assets within the compound without replacing central inventory ownership.
- Report shortages, damage, loss and discrepancies quickly and support reconciliation on return.
5. Logistics & Fleet Interface
- Coordinate unloading, loading, vehicle access, temporary staging and handover points with Logistics.
- Work with Fleet Management where event vehicles are based, handed over or supported from the compound.
- Avoid uncontrolled vehicle movements and unnecessary double handling.
6. Installation & Off-Track Support
- Support Installation and Off-Track Build Leads with efficient access to materials, tools, plant and storage.
- Coordinate competing compound requirements through the Operations Manager where necessary.
- Maintain separation between compound management and specialist workstream ownership.
7. Consumables, Waste & Housekeeping
- Maintain visibility of operational consumables and raise replenishment needs early.
- Establish practical waste segregation and removal arrangements in line with event requirements.
- Keep work and storage areas clean, accessible and presentable throughout the event.
8. Health, Safety & Security
- Implement applicable site rules, traffic controls, equipment storage standards, PPE and housekeeping requirements.
- Identify unsafe storage, blocked access, uncontrolled movements or other compound risks and correct/escalate them.
- Support secure access and control of Sport Signage equipment within the limits of the event setup.
9. Issue Management & Reporting
- Maintain awareness of compound-related constraints and advise the Operations Manager of issues affecting delivery.
- Provide accurate information to the Event & Project Assistant for records and post-event reporting where required.
- Escalate shortages or failures that cannot be resolved within the allocated compound resources.
10. Demobilisation & Improvement
- Plan orderly pack-down, asset segregation, waste clearance and loading sequence.
- Return the area in the condition required by the venue and support accurate asset reconciliation.
- Capture lessons on layout, equipment, access, storage and compound support for future races.
THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU NEED:
- Experience in event compounds, warehouses, logistics bases, site operations or a comparable practical environment.
- Experience coordinating equipment, materials, access and small teams.
- Strong practical organisation and housekeeping discipline.
- Confidence working around vehicles, plant and temporary event infrastructure.
- Live-event or motorsport experience is advantageous.
- Compound/site organisation.
- Storage and equipment staging.
- Practical logistics coordination.
- Team supervision and task allocation.
- H&S awareness and housekeeping.
- Problem solving, communication and basic record keeping.
