ABOUT THE ROLE
A boutique law firm is seeking a senior attorney to lead and grow its bankruptcy and restructuring practice. This department-head role combines an established portable practice with support for the firm's clients and investment funds navigating distressed portfolio companies.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead the bankruptcy and restructuring practice and help shape its growth.
- Advise investment funds on debt-side restructuring and workouts involving troubled portfolio companies.
- Handle in-court bankruptcy matters and out-of-court restructurings.
- Manage approximately 300 to 400 hours annually of firm-generated bankruptcy work alongside your portable practice.
- Mentor and direct a junior associate, and collaborate with attorneys serving existing firm clients.
- Continue developing your own client relationships and book of business.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Typically 10 to 25 years of bankruptcy, restructuring, and debtor-creditor experience, including substantial senior-level experience.
- A portable bankruptcy and restructuring practice generating approximately $1 million to $1.5 million in annual collections.
- Strong corporate restructuring and debt-side advisory experience, including both court proceedings and out-of-court workouts.
- Demonstrated ability to originate and manage client relationships and grow a practice.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York.
- Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a boutique law firm environment; large-firm experience is preferred.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base salary: $250,000 to $300,000 annually. The role offers a path to equity partnership and compensation upside. Visa sponsorship is not available.
LOCATION
Hybrid, based in New York, New York, with approximately three days per week in the office.
