Role Summary:
The Director, Inventory / Cost Accounting leads Dyne’s inventory and cost accounting strategy and established the financial infrastructure required to support commercial launch and continued portfolio growth. This role owns the development, implementation and governance of cost accounting processes, inventory valuation, and related controls across clinical and commercial products manufactured through third-party CMOs and CDMOs.. The Director serves as the company’s subject matter expert for inventory and cost accounting, providing strategic guidance on product costs, capitalization, reserves, gross margin, and complex accounting judgments. This highly visible role influences business decisions by translating manufacturing and supply chain activity into clear financial insights and recommendations for senior leadership.
The Director partners closely with Supply Chain, Technical Operations, Commercial Operations, FP&A, external manufacturing partners, and auditors to ensure accurate, scalable, and audit-ready processes. This role sets priorities, directs cross-functional initiatives, and develops the capabilities and resources needed to support Dyne’s transition from clinical development to a multi-product commercial organization.
This is a full-time position based in Waltham, MA without the possibility of being remote.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Cost Accounting & Costing Methodology
- Develop, implement, and maintain cost models for commercial product(s) manufactured through third-party CMOs/CDMOs
- Establish and maintain bill of materials (BOM) and routing cost structures in collaboration with Supply Chain and Technical Operations
- Perform periodic cost updates and manufacturing/production variance analysis
- Analyze and report on cost of goods sold (COGS)
Inventory Accounting
- Own inventory accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, clinical supply, and finished goods held at third-party locations
- Direct the period-end inventory and accounting close, ensuring accurate reporting, appropriate review, and timely resolution of issues
- Manage inventory reserve methodology and perform periodic assessments
- Manage physical inventory counts and cycle count programs across CMOs,CDMOs, and third-party logistics (3PL) providers
- Determine and document appropriate accounting treatment for inventory used across clinical and commercial operations
CMO/CDMO Cost Management
- Serve as the finance leader for cost-related aspects of CMO/CDMO relationships, including invoice review, cost true-ups, and technical transfer cost accounting
- Partner with Supply Chain, Technical Operations, Commercial Operations, and FP&A to incorporate cost insights into operating plans, forecasts, launch decisions, and gross margin strategy.
- Support cost impact analysis for manufacturing process changes, scale-up activities, and technology transfers
Financial Reporting & Controls
- Establish and maintain a scalable control environment for inventory and cost accounting that complies with U.S. GAAP, SOX requirements, and public company standards
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual cost accounting analyses and reporting packages for FP&A and senior leadership
- Design and maintain internal controls over inventory and cost accounting processes
- Partner with the Corporate Controller on technical accounting memos related to inventory capitalization, cost absorption, and related judgments
Cross-Functional Partnership & Process Building
- Act as a key finance partner to Supply Chain, Technical Operations, and Commercial Operations teams
- Build scalable cost accounting processes, systems, and reporting tools appropriate for a growing commercial-stage company
- Support ERP system configuration and enhancements related to cost accounting and inventory modules
- Provide cost-related input to gross-to-net, gross margin analysis, and product profitability reporting
Education and Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required
- 10+ years of progressive cost accounting experience, including at least 3-5 years in a leadership/managerial capacity
- Direct experience with cost accounting in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences manufacturing environment
- Experience managing cost accounting for products manufactured through CMOs/CDMOs (outsourced manufacturing model)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP as it relates to inventory, standard costing, and COGS
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) and cost accounting/inventory modules
- Advanced Excel skills; experience building cost models
- Experience supporting a commercial product launch and scaling cost accounting processes from a pre-commercial or early-commercial stage
- Experience with SOX compliance and public company reporting requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable building processes from the ground up
- Excellent cross-functional communication and ability to translate operational activity into financial impact
- High attention to detail balanced with the ability to operate in ambiguity typical of an early-commercial company

MA Pay Range$200,000—$230,000 USD
The pay range reflects the base pay range Dyne reasonably expects to pay for this role at the time of posting. Individual compensation depends on factors such as education, experience, job-related knowledge, and demonstrated skills.
