Job Overview
We are hiring a Yard Material Handler to move, organize, and load structural steel using a telehandler or forklift. This hands-on role supports fabrication and shipping operations in an outdoor steel yard.
Responsibilities:
- Operate telehandlers and forklifts to move, stage, and load or unload structural steel, including I-beams, columns, plates, and fabricated components.
- Organize yard inventory and stage materials for fabrication, shipping, and erection schedules.
- Read shop drawings, pick lists, and material tags to identify steel components accurately.
- Load trucks, secure materials, and coordinate with drivers and shop personnel.
- Complete routine equipment inspections, perform basic maintenance, and report mechanical or safety concerns.
- Follow OSHA safety standards, proper rigging procedures, and safe material-handling practices.
Qualifications:
- Experience operating telehandlers, forklifts, or similar heavy equipment in a steel yard or construction setting.
- Ability to handle large structural steel members safely.
- Basic blueprint, shop drawing, or material tag reading skills preferred.
- Knowledge of rigging, load balancing, and safe lifting practices.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs as needed.
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
