Job Summary:

The Sacramento Kings are seeking a Manager, Corporate Communications to join the Corporate Communications team. This role will support and execute communications efforts that elevate the organization’s business initiatives, brand, people, partnerships, and community impact.

The Manager will be responsible for developing communications materials, identifying and pitching media opportunities, managing media relations, supporting organizational announcements and events, and partnering with departments across the organization on communications needs. As part of a lean, highly collaborative team, this position will also provide hands-on administrative and operational support to ensure the day-to-day needs of the department are effectively managed.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer and storyteller who is equally comfortable managing communications projects and jumping in to support the day-to-day details required to keep the department running efficiently.

Key Responsibility Areas:

- Develop and execute communications plans that support Sacramento Kings business initiatives, organizational announcements, partnerships, events, and other strategic priorities.

- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, talking points, executive communications, briefing materials, FAQs, and other internal and external communications.

- Identify compelling story opportunities and proactively pitch local, regional, national, and trade media.

- Build and maintain relationships with media contacts and respond to incoming media inquiries as appropriate.

- Partner with internal departments to understand business priorities, identify communications opportunities, and develop messaging tailored to appropriate audiences.

- Lead the drafting and coordination of the organization’s internal newsletter and support other internal communications initiatives.

- Coordinate media events, press conferences, announcements, and other communications-related events, including scheduling, timelines, talking points, media outreach, preparation, and on-site execution.

- Maintain current media lists and manage media monitoring, coverage tracking, clips, and reporting.

- Monitor relevant news and industry trends and identify potential communications opportunities or considerations for the organization.

- Track upcoming projects, deadlines, organizational announcements, awards, milestones, and other communications opportunities.

- Support executive communications through the development of talking points, briefing materials, presentations, and other messaging as needed.

- Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support for the Corporate Communications department, including scheduling meetings and appointments, organizing department inboxes and files, processing purchase orders, managing mail and deliveries, coordinating materials, and other administrative needs.

- Assist with department logistics and occasional errands related to media events, organizational announcements, games, and other business needs.

- Exercise discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential, sensitive, or time-sensitive information.

- Support game nights, events, and other organizational initiatives as needed.

- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

- 3–5 years of professional experience in corporate communications, public relations, media relations, or a related field required.

- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field preferred.

- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with demonstrated experience developing communications materials for internal and external audiences.

- Experience pitching media and building relationships with reporters, editors, and other media contacts.

- Strong understanding of media relations and communications best practices.

- Proactive, hands-on approach with a willingness to support both strategic communications initiatives and the day-to-day operational needs of the department.

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of an organization.

- Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.

- Ability to work independently, anticipate department needs, and exercise sound judgment.

- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and attention to detail.

- Service-oriented and committed to teamwork, with the ability to tailor communications to different audiences.

- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, social media platforms, and internet research; experience with media monitoring services preferred.

- Sports, entertainment, hospitality, agency, or other fast-paced consumer-facing industry experience is a plus.

- Ability to work game nights, extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
