Senior Network Engineer

We are partnering with a large enterprise operating critical network infrastructure and are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer (L3 SME) to join a long-term managed services engagement.
This role will suit someone who enjoys solving complex network challenges, acting as the senior escalation point for critical incidents, and ensuring the stability and performance of large-scale Cisco environments.
About the Role
As the Senior Network Engineer, you will serve as the technical SME and L3 escalation point for complex routing and switching issues. You will play a key role in incident resolution, root cause analysis, operational governance, network compliance, and mentoring junior engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the L3 escalation point for complex network incidents
- Troubleshooting routing and switching issues across large-scale environments
- Performing root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents
- Supporting network stability, resilience and operational excellence
- Reviewing and approving network changes
- Maintaining network standards and configuration compliance
- Working closely with security, load balancing and infrastructure teams
- Mentoring and supporting engineers within the wider operations team
- Contributing to service improvement initiatives and operational reporting
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience
- 8+ years' experience as a Network Engineer within enterprise, managed services or critical infrastructure environment
- Experience supporting Operational Technology (OT), industrial, utilities, mining, energy, transport, manufacturing or critical infrastructure environments
- Strong Cisco routing and switching expertise
- Experience acting as an L3 escalation point for complex incidents
- Advanced troubleshooting capabilities across Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies
- Experience managing major incidents and service restoration activities
- Strong understanding of change management and operational governance

- Cisco Catalyst Switching
- BGP
- OSPF
- EIGRP
- STP / RSTP / MST
- HSRP / VRRP
- Network monitoring and compliance tools
- ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms
Certifications
- CCNP Enterprise or equivalent
- CCIE highly regarded
Highly Desirable
- Managed services experience
- Experience within highly available production environments
