Coherent empowers market innovators to define the future through breakthrough technologies, from materials to systems. Our innovations serve customers in the industrial, communications, electronics and instrumentation markets. Headquartered in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, we operate research and development, manufacturing, sales and service facilities around the world.

Our technology is built on the knowledge and experience of our people. We value open communication, trust and collaboration, and every colleague contributes to our shared success.

The role

Join our production team in Lübeck and help ensure our laser systems meet the required performance and quality standards. You’ll carry out routine final tests across several product lines, measuring parameters such as optical power, current and beam characteristics. You’ll record and review the results, keeping an eye out for unusual readings or trends that may need further investigation.

Alongside testing, you’ll complete product-specific assembly tasks. These may include fitting front and rear panels, adjusting a beam shutter and carefully connecting sensitive optical fibres. You’ll receive hands-on training in our products and test procedures, so previous laser experience is an advantage but not essential.

What you will do

- Carry out routine final tests and daily measurements on laser systems.

- Measure and record parameters such as optical power, current and beam characteristics using established procedures and equipment.

- Review results as a whole, compare readings over time and identify unusual changes or developing trends.

- Record measurements in prepared Excel protocols and production databases.

- Report results outside expected ranges, or trends that may indicate a future issue, to the technical expert or Manufacturing Engineering team.

- Complete simple product-specific assembly tasks, such as fitting panels, adjusting a beam shutter and carefully connecting optical fibres.

- Work in a cleanroom for the relevant product line and follow applicable quality, handling and safety procedures.

- Build expertise in one product line first, with the opportunity to cross-train in others over time.

What you bring

- Completed technical vocational training, for example as an electronics or mechatronics technician, precision mechanic, electrician, physical technical assistant, information or communications electronics technician, dental technician, or in a comparable hands-on technical discipline.

- Confidence using measurement equipment and following technical procedures.

- A strong quality mindset and the care to notice when a result looks unusual, even if it is still within a stated limit.

- A practical understanding of technical or physical processes.

- Basic computer skills, including the ability to enter and review data in Excel and production databases. Advanced Excel skills are not required.

- Patience and care when handling sensitive components, particularly optical fibres.

- Laser experience is an advantage, but you do not need to arrive as a laser specialist. We will teach you the product-specific measurements and acceptable tolerances.

Our ICARE Values

How we work is just as important as what we achieve. Everyone at Coherent is expected to demonstrate our ICARE values:

🤝 Integrity – Create an Environment of Trust

✨ Collaboration – Innovate Through the Sharing of Ideas

🎯 Accountability – Own the Process and the Outcome

Training and development

You will receive structured, hands-on training in one product line. The usual training period is around three months before you are ready to manage its daily routines independently. Once you are confident in that area, you can develop knowledge of additional product lines.
