The right drivers and technicians keep a transportation business moving. The right recruiting leader builds the team, relationships, and processes that bring them in—and help them stay.

TCI Transportation is seeking a Director of Recruiting to lead recruiting strategy and execution across our branches. This role focuses on CDL and non-CDL drivers, technicians at every level, and shop personnel, including Service Managers, Service Writers, Shop Supervisors, and Rental Porters.

You’ll lead the recruiting team, strengthen candidate pipelines, manage recruitment marketing and spending, and partner with operational leaders to deliver qualified hires. We’re looking for someone who can connect strategy with daily execution—developing recruiters, removing hiring bottlenecks, and improving results without compromising hiring standards.

šŸŽÆ What You’ll Lead🚚 Driver Recruiting Strategy

Develop recruiting plans that address hiring needs by location, business line, and season. Partner with Operations and Safety to attract qualified drivers, maintain consistent screening standards, and improve speed-to-contact and candidate follow-up.

For Class A CDL recruiting, uphold TCI’s minimum of 12 months of verifiable Class A CDL driving experience. TCI does not hire drivers directly out of CDL training schools.

šŸ”§ Technician & Shop Recruiting

Build recruiting strategies for diesel, trailer, shop, mobile, and related maintenance positions. Partner with Maintenance and shop leadership to identify staffing needs, define required skills and certifications, and incorporate hands-on skills assessments.

šŸ‘„ Recruiting Team Leadership

Hire, train, coach, and develop department staff. Manage daily workflows, establish clear performance expectations, conduct timely evaluations, and oversee monthly and quarterly incentive programs tied to productivity and hiring goals.

šŸ¤ Hiring Manager Partnerships

Work closely with Operations, regional leadership, Maintenance, Safety, HR, and Employee Engagement and Retention. Define hiring-team responsibilities and establish service-level expectations that keep decisions, interviews, and onboarding handoffs moving.

šŸ“‹ Full-Cycle Recruiting Execution

Oversee the process from job posting and sourcing through screening, interviews, background checks, references, offers, and onboarding handoff. Identify delays and improve workflows to reduce time-to-start and cost-per-hire.

šŸ“£ Recruitment Marketing & Candidate Pipelines

Lead job advertising, career-site content, social media, referral programs, and recruiting campaigns. Evaluate job boards and lead-generation vendors, and build relationships with workforce agencies, military transition programs, and industry associations.

Develop technician pipelines through technical schools, community colleges, and apprenticeship programs, with messaging that highlights relevant pay, shifts, tools, training, and career paths.

šŸ›”ļø Hiring Standards & Compliance

Partner with Safety to ensure driver hiring meets DOT/FMCSA requirements, including qualification files, driving records, safety history, drug testing, Clearinghouse queries, and medical certification. Maintain recruiting practices that support applicable employment laws, equal employment opportunity, and background-check requirements.

šŸ“Š Recruiting Data & Early Retention

Manage the applicant tracking system and recruiting data. Track applicant volume, time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, source effectiveness, offer acceptance, and 90-day new-hire turnover.

Turn those findings into action with HR and operational partners, with particular attention to helping drivers and technicians succeed during their first 100 days.

šŸ’° Budget & Vendor Accountability

Own the annual recruiting budget, advertising spend, and vendor contracts. Direct resources toward effective recruiting channels and hold the department accountable for measurable improvement.

āœ… What You Bring- Strong recruiting leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to coach teams, set expectations, and manage performance.

- Understanding of driver and technician labor markets, recruiting methods, and recruitment marketing practices.

- Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA driver qualification and hiring requirements.

- Experience with applicant tracking systems, recruiting platforms, and job boards.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.

- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and recruiting practices.

- Strong organization, attention to detail, customer service, and proficiency with Microsoft Office or related software.

A valid driver’s license is required. The position includes travel to branches, vendors, schools, recruiting events, conferences, and trade shows, along with flexibility for night, weekend, and holiday work as needed.

šŸ“ˆ Make an Impact Beyond the HireThis role connects recruiting directly to operational success. You’ll influence how TCI attracts candidates, how hiring teams make decisions, how recruiting resources are invested, and how new employees begin their careers.
