Medcor Safety, a subsidiary of Medcor, is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for a short-term construction project in Tomah, Wisconsin.
This opportunity offers competitive hourly compensation, a generous weekly per diem, and a four-day workweek supporting a project involving the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
We're looking for a knowledgeable, hands-on construction safety professional who understands federal construction safety requirements, takes a proactive approach to identifying hazards, and can work effectively with project leadership and field personnel.

What You'll Do
As the Site Safety and Health Officer, you'll be responsible for supporting and maintaining a safe, compliant construction environment throughout the project.
Your responsibilities will include:

Conduct daily job site safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and opportunities for improvement.

Work closely with construction crews, supervisors, subcontractors, and project management to promote safe work practices.

Support compliance with applicable OSHA regulations, USACE safety requirements, and project-specific safety standards.

Implement and maintain site-specific safety programs, policies, and procedures.

Lead and participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and project safety orientations.

Review and maintain employee safety training records and required documentation.

Document safety observations, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.

Assist with incident investigations, accident reporting, and the development of preventive measures.

Participate in the development and implementation of Site-Specific Safety Plans.

Review owner and contractor safety requirements to ensure project compliance.

Develop positive working relationships with field personnel, project leadership, and outside agencies.

Promote a proactive safety culture focused on hazard prevention and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of relevant construction safety experience.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.

Current CPR/First Aid certification.

Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification OR a bachelor's degree in Safety.

Strong understanding of OSHA construction standards and workplace safety regulations.

Experience conducting job site safety inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits.

Ability to communicate effectively with construction crews, project management, and other stakeholders.

Strong organizational skills and experience maintaining safety documentation and reports.

Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Previous experience serving as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO).

Experience supporting USACE or other federal construction projects.

Familiarity with USACE EM 385-1-1 safety requirements.

Experience developing or maintaining Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
Physical Requirements
This is an active, field-based position requiring regular movement throughout an operating construction site. Candidates must be able to:

Stand, walk, bend, squat, and climb stairs or ladders throughout the workday.

Navigate uneven terrain and active construction environments.

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Access elevated work platforms when necessary.

Occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Perform essential safety inspections and observations, with or without reasonable accommodation.
