Senior Software Engineer, Digital Operations
BETA Technologies · South Burlington, Vermont, United States · onsite
At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.
BETA builds its own manufacturing software in-house: the spec library, the work plans, floor execution, nonconformance handling, and the inventory traceability record that connects them. In effect, it's a manufacturing ERP built for a certified aircraft program. Our work is engineering-led, with data modeling and architecture at the core. Because our product is the evidence BETA will use to ship certified aircraft. As a Senior Software Engineer you'll shape this growing system, owning major projects from first conversations with operators on the floor, to operating the system for hundreds of users.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Lead the design, development, and operation of the systems that take engineering parts from specification to work plan to signed-off floor execution, with every material, tool, and inspection tied to the record
- Own data modeling for core manufacturing domains, designing schemas that solve today's product needs and give the team a foundation to build on for years
- Define the architecture of the systems you own and document decisions through design docs and reviews
- Build reliable integrations with PLM, ERP, and warehouse systems, and the durable, observable pipelines that keep them in sync
- Design traceability, audit trails, and record integrity into the systems from the start
- Embed with production, quality, and manufacturing engineering on the floor, and turn their ideas into systems that hold up under an FAA audit
- Support production systems and lead incident response, learning from mistakes to drive continuous improvement
- Contribute to hiring and uphold standards for testing, code quality, and documentation
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including owning production backend systems
- You use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor) daily and keep the rigor high-assurance systems demand: design review, testing, and validation
- You're a data modeling expert, with deep experience designing relational models for traceability and reliability in complex, state-heavy business domains
- You’ve built battle-tested integrations with third party systems: You can perform API forensics, badger support teams, and build integrations that tolerate unreliable, inconsistent behavior from systems you don't control
- You can translate our complex work to nontechnical partners to build credibility, make decisions, and drive adoption
- You've deployed and operated production applications on AWS or a similar cloud provider
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
- Experience building software for manufacturing or production environments
- Experience in aerospace or another regulated industry (e.g., AS9100, FAA, ITAR/EAR) and with audit-trail or traceability systems
- Experience designing or building ERP, MES, QMS, PLM, or inventory management systems
- Familiarity with BOM lineage, engineering change control, serialized traceability, or NCR/CAPA/FAI workflows
- Background in data engineering or analytics pipelines
- Previous experience at a startup or in a fast-paced environment
