Project Engineer – Shop Drawings & Submittals

Position Overview

The Project Engineer serves as the technical link between our project teams, fabricators, and suppliers. This role reviews shop drawings, submittals, and design changes to confirm material is ordered and produced correctly, efficiently, and on time. Working closely with Project Managers, it plays a key part in keeping projects on schedule and catching problems on paper before they become field delays or wasted material.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who:

- Enjoys the details and gets satisfaction from catching the mistake before anyone else does

- Is comfortable reading drawings all day and asking the right questions when something doesn't line up

Key Responsibilities

- Review shop drawings against contract documents, specifications, and field conditions for accuracy and constructability

- Identify and track design changes, variations, and field revisions, and confirm their impact on material, cost, and schedule

- Coordinate with fabricators and suppliers so material is released, produced, and delivered on time

- Prepare, submit, and track submittals and RFIs through approval

- Verify quantities and material takeoffs before release to production

- Flag discrepancies, conflicts, and missing information early and work with Project Managers to resolve them

- Partner with Project Managers, estimators, and field crews to keep production aligned with the project schedule

- Track and report submittal and drawing status to Project Managers on a weekly basis

- Maintain accurate submittal logs, drawing revisions, and project files

Qualifications

- 2+ years of experience as a Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, Detailer, or similar role in construction

- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications

- Working knowledge of construction management software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel

- Experience with submittal and RFI processes

- Preferred: experience with millwork, casework, countertops, or flooring
