Purchasing Manager
Apollo Mechanical Contractors · Denver, United States
Purchasing Manager:
Apollo Mechanical Contractors is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead procurement operations for our Denver team.
This is a working leadership position for someone who combines strong operational judgment with urgency, accountability, supplier management, and a genuine desire to help project teams succeed.
Apollo defines procurement broadly. Purchasing is one component of a larger process that includes understanding project requirements, sourcing, buyout planning, managing supplier risk, tracking material and equipment, and protecting field execution.
What You'll Do:
- Lead purchasing and procurement activities for the region.
- Develop and support buyers and other procurement personnel.
- Establish expectations around responsiveness, accountability, follow-through, accuracy, and customer service.
- Partner with project managers, engineers, estimators, operations, and field teams on procurement strategy.
- Support project buyouts and major sourcing decisions.
- Identify long-lead materials and procurement risks early.
- Maintain visibility into critical orders, supplier commitments, and material availability.
- Help the team prioritize when demand exceeds available capacity.
- Participate directly in complex or high-risk procurements and supplier escalations.
- Negotiate and maintain productive supplier relationships.
- Evaluate sourcing decisions based on total project impact, not simply initial purchase price.
- Develop regional supplier capabilities while leveraging Apollo's broader supplier relationships.
- Improve procurement processes, tools, and workflows.
- Maintain strong purchasing controls and documentation.
- Make sure problems are surfaced early rather than discovered when material is already late.
Qualifications:
- Creates accountability without creating bureaucracy.
- Can distinguish what is genuinely urgent from what is simply loud.
- Makes decisions with incomplete information when necessary.
- Coaches people rather than solving every problem for them.
- Is willing to jump into the details when circumstances require it.
- Develops strong relationships with project teams and suppliers.
- Understands the balance between price, schedule, quality, risk, and long-term supplier relationships.
- Communicates difficult information early and directly.
- Looks for ways to eliminate wasted effort and improve purchasing throughput.
- Has excellent judgment and personal integrity.
- Remains steady when multiple projects need help simultaneously.
- Builds a culture in which ownership and follow-through are normal expectations.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, construction, manufacturing, project management, or a related operational environment.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong commercial judgment and negotiation ability.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
