ABOUT THE ROLE
Join a healthtech team building a production compiler that turns clinical standards into structured, executable decision logic. This research-focused role combines rigorous experimentation with production engineering to improve the safety, traceability, and fidelity of clinical decision systems.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Build and improve pipelines that parse clinical documents and transform their content into validated executable modules.
- Design and refine a target representation for clinical guideline logic, including rules, exclusions, precedence, and recommendations.
- Compare open and closed models, fine-tuning approaches, and constrained decoding through carefully designed experiments.
- Develop benchmarks, datasets, metrics, and adversarial cases to assess source fidelity, logical completeness, and recommendation correctness.
- Collaborate with clinicians and technical colleagues to turn model failures into hypotheses, experiments, and system improvements.
- Develop deterministic validators using static analysis, constraint solving, or formal methods to make ambiguity, contradiction, and gaps in source material explicit.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- At least 3 years of research or industry experience, or final-year PhD or postdoctoral experience, with production engineering work beyond research roles.
- Experience shipping ML or NLP systems to production and validating model outputs rather than assuming plausible outputs are correct.
- Production-level experience with Python, PyTorch, and the Transformers ecosystem, plus experience with LLM evaluation, training, or prompt engineering.
- A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, or a related technical field.
- Clear technical writing about failed experiments, uncertainty, and results, along with comfort working across disciplines in ambiguous settings.
- Experience with compilers, program synthesis, formal methods, static analysis, intermediate representations, constraint solving, SAT/SMT, or domain-specific languages is valuable.
- Healthcare, safety-critical, or regulated-domain experience is valuable, as is a PhD in a relevant technical field.
- Authorization to work remotely in the United States or Canada, and willingness to attend in-person offsites several times per year.
