Who are we?
Edrolo is a leading EdTech provider headquartered in Melbourne, providing educational resources to over 200,000 students, 17,000 teachers, and 1000 schools across Australia, with a focus on Years 7-12. We provide full-service teaching and learning resources, from textbooks through to high-quality video lessons and exams, complete with analytics and dashboards to make learning fun and effective!
The Product & Design team owns the product experience across teacher workflows, student study loops, assessments, insights surfaces, and administrative workflows. This role operates within a small, cross-functional team and collaborates closely with Engineering, Education, and customer-facing teams. The Lead Product Designer reports to the Head of Product & Design and works within a team that includes other designers and product managers.
Position summary
The Lead Product Designer is Edrolo's most senior design practitioner. The role leads discovery on the highest-priority, most ambiguous product opportunities and shapes what gets built, not only how it looks and behaves.
The Lead holds the design quality bar across the whole product and lifts the capability of the product design across the entire organisation through influence and mentoring.
Responsibilities
Problem framing. Turn ambiguous requests into validated, prioritised problems. Bring evidence, explore more than one plausible direction before converging, and name the assumptions and the smallest test that de-risks them before the team commits to build.
Continuous discovery. Research with teachers, students and school leaders through interviews, in-context observation and concept testing. Pair qualitative insight with product analytics (Mixpanel, Omni) to find where users get stuck and whether what shipped changed behaviour.
The craft bar. Own interaction quality, accessibility and visual coherence across the product. Steward the design system as shared infrastructure with engineering, trading system purity for user and business value when they conflict.
Engineering partnership. No handoffs. Engineers join at problem framing; the Lead stays through implementation, prototyping in code where it gives a truer answer, with AI tools as standard practice at every stage.
Team capability. Mentor the product designers through critique and specific feedback on product judgement, research rigour and craft. The team getting measurably better over time is a core accountability of this role.
Outcomes. Every significant piece of work carries a success measure set before build and a post-launch review. The Lead is accountable for whether the work moved outcomes for teachers and students, not whether it shipped.
