We've partnered with a fast-growing company building AI-powered hardware products, and they build them differently.
Every engineer is AI-native. AI tools are a core part of the development process, not a side experiment. If you're curious what spec-driven, AI-assisted engineering looks like in practice (not just prompting a chatbot for snippets), this is a rare chance to work in a team built around it. You'll also get direct access to leadership and fast decisions, with no layers of middle management.
They're wrapping up Phase 1 of a major rebuild of the software running on their devices, with more phases to come. This is new feature work on a fresh foundation, not firefighting legacy code.
What you'll work on
- The consumer mobile app (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose) built on MVI, Clean Architecture and modular architecture, used across multiple regions
- Customised, embedded Android running on physical hardware, including real-time data from devices over protocols like MQTT and WebSockets. No prior embedded experience needed, you'll learn it on the job
- Real ownership of features from spec to production, alongside an Android technical lead in a flat team
What we're looking for
- Minimum 5+ years of core Android, comfortable owning feature work (not just maintenance)
- Strong Kotlin Coroutines, Flow and Channels. You understand how data streams through an app, how to handle backpressure, errors and cancellation, and how to build reliable behaviour when connectivity drops
- At least 1 year of hands-on Jetpack Compose
- A track record of shipping and owning distinct features in consumer apps
- Hands-on with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) or genuinely keen to build that skill. You don't need to be an AI expert, but you do need curiosity
- Bonus: AOSP, Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP), or integrating apps with hardware (Bluetooth, GPS, sensors)
Not for you if you want to stay in a traditional mobile-only lane. This team wants people who get excited about AI and hardware.
