Senior Manager, Technical Accounting & Reporting

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Manager of Technical Accounting & Reporting responsible for complex accounting research areas, financial reporting, policy setting and helping scale the accounting function through our next stage of growth. This person will be a key leader on the Corporate Accounting team, partnering closely with cross-functional teams and external auditors.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting expertise, strong SEC reporting instincts, and experience operating through periods of significant reporting maturity, including enhancing Rippling’s financial readiness to transition to a publicly traded company. This role requires someone who can both own the technical details and build repeatable, high-quality processes for a fast-growing business. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to work from our San Francisco office 1–3 days per week.

What you will do- Lead technical accounting research and documentation for complex and judgmental areas. Support new corporate projects, as needed, in areas of complex accounting and proactively identify, research, consult, and draft technical memorandums on all new global company initiatives, including product launches.

- Own the preparation and review of technical accounting memos, policy positions, and conclusions under US GAAP. Support local GAAP requirements with our International Accounting team.

- Lead key aspects of external reporting readiness, including disclosure development, reporting controls, supporting schedules, and public-company reporting processes.

- Help drive the company’s evolution from private-company reporting toward public-company standards, including SEC-style reporting rigor, audit committee-ready materials, and scalable close and reporting processes.

- Manage, coach, and develop a team, setting clear priorities, raising the quality of technical analysis, and building a high-performing technical accounting and reporting team.

- Partner with Legal, FP&A, Tax, Equity, Treasury, Revenue, and business teams to evaluate accounting implications of new products, transactions, contracts, and strategic initiatives.

- Support quarterly and annual audit processes, including coordination with external auditors on overall progress, technical matters, reporting deliverables, and complex accounting judgments.

- Develop, maintain, and improve accounting policies, reporting checklists, disclosure controls, and process documentation.

- Monitor new accounting standards and SEC reporting developments; assess impact, lead adoption planning, and communicate implications to stakeholders.

- Drive quarterly valuation process and assess reasonableness of valuations working directly with external valuations specialists and Finance and Accounting team leads. Build public ready controls around the valuation process.

- Build scalable review processes and internal controls that support accuracy, consistency, auditability, and future public-company readiness.

- Prepare executive-ready and audit committee-ready materials that clearly explain complex accounting conclusions and reporting considerations.

- Provide strong leadership to the Accounting department and our broader Finance organization, delivering technical accounting training and providing valuable insights to the larger finance function

What you will need- 10+ years in progressive roles in accounting and/or auditing within technical accounting research and financial reporting.

- BS degree in Accounting and CPA required

- Public accounting experience, especially within a Big Four or national firm’s audit or technical accounting advisory practice, strongly preferred. A mix with industry experience is a plus.

- Strong technical accounting background with deep knowledge of US GAAP and experience researching, documenting, and defending accounting conclusions. Subject matter expert in complex areas of accounting.

- Proficiency with researching accounting literature including FASB, SEC, AICPA and IFRS rules and regulations.

- Experience with SEC reporting, public-company reporting requirements, or public-company readiness work, ideally including S-1 / IPO preparation, Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, and related disclosure processes.

- Prior experience navigating a company through increased reporting complexity, preferably from private-company reporting to public-company readiness and/or public-company operations.

- People management experience, with a track record of coaching and developing accounting professionals.

- Excellent written communication skills, especially the ability to turn complex accounting issues into clear, well-supported memos and stakeholder-ready summaries.

- Strong project management skills and ability to drive cross-functional workstreams with tight timelines and high attention to detail.

- Experience working with external auditors and managing technical accounting review processes.

- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where processes are evolving and judgment is required.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; clear and proactive communication to senior leadership.

- Results orientation, working on a fast-paced team, adapting to rapidly changing situations and conditions as well as a drive and bias for action. Motivated to learn and grow and develop knowledge of unfamiliar areas.
