Your Opportunity
Stantec has an opportunity for an experienced Stream Restoration Engineer to support ecological restoration and water resources engineering from our Colorado Springs, Colorado; Denver, Colorado; or Salt Lake City, Utah office. This position will involve ecological and stream restoration design, geomorphic studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and delivery of environmental and water resources projects. The successful candidate will apply practical engineering knowledge and independent judgment to resolve technical issues within standard practice guidelines, contribute to process improvements, and use current engineering modeling, CAD, and GIS technology to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
The successful candidate will work under general supervision and collaborate with engineers, scientists, GIS professionals, and planners to develop studies, analyses, and designs for ecological restoration, stream restoration, watershed, and stormwater management projects. Assignments will be broad, varied, and diverse in scope. The candidate will independently analyze issues, interpret information, select appropriate methods and solutions, take responsibility for straightforward components of larger projects or small projects with guidance, and provide mentoring and informal guidance to junior staff.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate construction plans, technical specifications, design calculations, and engineer estimates of probable construction cost, applying applicable engineering principles, standards, codes, regulations, and quality requirements;
- Prepare and review design reports, technical memoranda, calculations, permit-support documents, and other technical deliverables;
- Lead or perform watershed evaluations, stream assessments, geomorphic analyses, and water quality monitoring in support of stormwater management and ecosystem restoration design;
- Perform and interpret hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, including one-dimensional and two-dimensional HEC-RAS modeling, to support stream and ecological restoration projects;
- Coordinate and communicate with multidisciplinary project teams, project managers, clients, permitting agencies, and local communities; keep stakeholders informed of progress, changes, risks, and emerging needs;
- Plan, collect, evaluate, and document field data, including GPS data, geomorphic and topographic survey information, stream assessment observations, and construction-related field information; identify and recommend corrective actions for technical, quality, health and safety, schedule, budget, and project risks; track costs and support resource planning; and mentor junior staff through task coordination, coaching, and work-product review.
Qualifications
Your Key Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Civil, Water Resources, Ecological, or a closely related engineering discipline;
Typically, a minimum of five years of related post-graduate engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience, including experience with stream assessment, ecological or stream restoration design, stormwater management, or water resources engineering;
Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, or successful completion of the PE examination with the ability to obtain licensure within an agreed timeframe;
Practical knowledge of fluid mechanics, hydrology, open-channel hydraulics, sediment transport, geomorphic processes, engineering design standards, permitting requirements, quality management, and project risk assessment;
Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, communicate technical and business concepts clearly, collaborate across disciplines, maintain client contact, manage straightforward project components, track scope and costs, improve work processes, and mentor junior staff; and a demonstrated commitment to water resources, stormwater management, ecological restoration, quality, inclusion, and health and safety.
