ABOUT THE ROLE
Lead an engineering pod building software for the mortgage lending industry. This hands-on management role combines people leadership, delivery ownership, and regular coding, with close partnership across engineering and product.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Manage and support an engineering team through regular one-on-ones, feedback, performance reviews, hiring, and career development.
- Own planning, retrospectives, delivery health, and early identification of project risks.
- Contribute code regularly, including shipping approximately one to two pull requests per week.
- Partner with product managers and technical leads on prioritization, architecture, and cross-functional alignment.
- Support effective onboarding and maintain clear documentation and ownership boundaries.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Eight or more years of software engineering or engineering management experience, with a progressive path from software development into senior technical or management roles.
- Demonstrated people management experience leading a team of at least five engineers, including hiring and performance management.
- Recent experience shipping production software and contributing code as an engineering manager, with substantial backend engineering experience.
- Hands-on TypeScript experience and willingness to code in TypeScript as part of the selection process.
- Experience with modern web and backend technologies such as TypeScript, React, Node.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
- Experience using AI tools in engineering workflows and familiarity with AI product development practices such as evaluations, experiment design, and dataset curation.
- Startup or small-company experience is preferred.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base salary: $225,000 to $300,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available. Equity and other benefits were not specified.
