The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Program Management and Administration is looking for an Accounting Technician 3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.
Anchorage: $31.54 / hourly (OT Eligible)
Juneau: $33.12 / hourly (OT Eligible)
What you will be doing:
This position provides essential accounting, budgeting, and financial oversight support for regional project managers, upper management, and administrative staff. The role is responsible for assisting in the preparation and distribution of capital project development authorizations, developing capital project funding documents, and managing, programming, and tracking legislative appropriations.
Key Responsibilities
- Process initial, amended, and closing capital project development authorizations by establishing project structures and coding in IRIS, ensuring alignment between project funding sources and State Legislative Authority.
- Collaborate with project managers to identify funding shortages and available resources, prepare supporting documentation, and calculate and justify requests for additional funding.
- Receive, complete, and respond to reporting requests from FHWA, FAA, HQ Fiscal–Administrative Services, and other internal and external stakeholders requiring project or financial information.

Who we are looking for:
To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:
- Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
- Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
- Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.
Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
