Recovery Support Assistant

Jamestown Salish Seasons is seeking a Recovery Support Assistant (RSA) to join our care team and help create and maintain a safe, welcoming, trauma-informed, and culturally grounded healing environment for residents receiving voluntary behavioral health stabilization services.
The Recovery Support Assistant is a foundational member of the Jamestown Salish Seasons care team. This role provides a consistent and supportive presence within the milieu through safety monitoring, therapeutic engagement, operational support, and assistance with daily living activities.
RSAs prioritize verbal de-escalation, respectful communication, and relationship-based support to foster dignity, emotional safety, and holistic healing. The RSA models a friendly, helpful, and professional approach that reflects the mission, values, and cultural wellness philosophy of Jamestown Salish Seasons.

Essential Functions
Resident Safety & Healing Environment

Conducts regular, documented resident safety checks and maintains environmental awareness to support a safe and secure healing setting.

Provides a calm, supportive, and visible presence within the milieu.

Utilizes verbal de-escalation, redirection, and trauma-informed engagement techniques to support emotional regulation and resident safety.

Participates in resident safety holds only when necessary for immediate protection and only in accordance with approved training, protocols, and supervision.
Resident Support & Engagement
-
Supports residents with daily living activities and general day-to-day needs within the program environment.

Facilitates and participates in resident leisure, recreation, and recovery-oriented activities such as games, wellness groups, and community-based outings.

Provides safe transportation for residents to appointments, approved activities, or other program-related needs as assigned.

Encourages respectful participation, engagement, and relationship-building within the therapeutic milieu.
Operational & Facility Support

Assists with meal service, laundry support, room readiness, and upkeep of resident and common areas.

Supports a clean, welcoming, and organized environment that reinforces dignity and recovery.

Assists with medication-room workflow support (e.g., stocking, organization, escorting residents) but does not prepare, handle, or administer medications.

Performs non-licensed operational duties as directed by the Recovery Support Lead, nursing staff, or JSS leadership.
Documentation & Team Collaboration

Accurately documents safety checks, significant resident interactions, incidents, and other required observations according to policy.

Collaborates closely with the Recovery Support Lead and broader multidisciplinary care team.

Participates in shift handoff communication and timely reporting of safety or resident concerns.

Supports consistent implementation of program routines, expectations, and healing-environment standards.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or equivalent.

CPR/First Aid Certification and Washington State Food Handlers Card (or ability to obtain within onboarding timelines).

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally and regionally as needed.

Successfully pass a criminal background investigation.

Ability to support individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges and emotional distress using non-clinical, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented approaches.

Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage individuals in a respectful, non-judgmental manner.

Ability to build rapport, maintain therapeutic boundaries, and foster trust.

Ability to support a safe, structured, and emotionally supportive milieu.

Understanding of the emotional demands of behavioral health work, with a demonstrated commitment to personal wellness and resilience.

Preferred Qualifications
-
Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in behavioral health, residential care, direct support, hospitality, peer support, human services, or other relationship-based service environments.

American Indian/Alaska Native preferences apply.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
-
Work is performed in a residential behavioral health setting.
-
Leadership support, team collaboration, and routine debriefing practices are incorporated to support staff wellness and resilience in this emotionally demanding environment.

The position requires regular interaction with residents and staff and the ability to maintain a professional and respectful environment.
-
Positions work 12-hour shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, supporting 24/7 resident care operations while offering schedule consistency and concentrated days off.

Requires regular walking, standing, environmental monitoring, and active engagement throughout the facility.
-
May require response to urgent resident support and safety situations consistent with role training and program expectations.

Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 25 lbs. unassisted.

Must be able to withstand prolonged standing, sitting, walking, bending, climbing, squatting, and twisting without restriction.

Requires eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity; ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
