Data & BI Engineer (Microsoft Fabric / Power BI)

Ardena · Oss, Netherlands · hybrid

About Ardena

Ardena is a global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) and Contract Research Organization (CRO) specializing in precision medicine development. Ardena supports pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in bringing innovative, complex molecules from discovery to market.

The Ardena Group operates from five sites across Europe and the United States, employing more than 700 professionals. Our European sites are in Oss and Assen in the Netherlands, Ghent in Belgium and Pamplona in Spain. Our US facility is based in Somerset, New Jersey. Ardena provides integrated services spanning drug substance development, drug product formulation, GMP manufacturing, bioanalytical services, clinical logistics, fill and finish, and CMC regulatory support.

For our site in Oss (the Netherlands) or Pamplona (Spain), whichever suits you best, we are looking for a

Data & BI Engineer (Microsoft Fabric / Power BI).

The role

Ardena has an established data and reporting platform built on Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. In this end-to-end role you take operational ownership of that platform and the reporting built on it: you keep it running reliably, adapt it as the business changes, and work with business and technical stakeholders at all Ardena sites to turn their questions into data they can rely on.

What you will do

Fabric platform ownership

- Take day-to-day ownership of the Microsoft Fabric data platform and make sure scheduled data processing and reporting run reliably.

- Monitor pipelines, transformations, semantic models and refreshes; investigate and resolve failures and data-quality issues.

- Maintain and update business logic as business rules, source data or reporting requirements change.

- Develop new transformations, datasets and data connections where needed.

- Validate and reconcile data across source systems, the Fabric platform and downstream reporting.

- Keep clear documentation of platform components, business rules, data lineage and key operational processes.

Power BI reporting

- Own and maintain the existing suite of Power BI reports and dashboards.

- Resolve report errors, refresh failures, performance issues and user questions.

- Implement changes to reports, measures, calculations and visualizations.

- Design and build new reports and dashboards that are clear, intuitive and actionable.

- Ensure definitions, calculations and metrics are applied consistently across all reporting.

- Help users understand and get the most out of their reports.

Business engagement and analysis

- Work directly with stakeholders to understand their objectives, reporting needs and operational challenges.

- Translate their requirements into clearly defined data, platform or reporting changes – and challenge them where needed.

- Analyze data to identify trends, exceptions, opportunities and data-quality concerns.

- Present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Balance planned improvements with operational support and ad hoc business priorities.

What we are looking for

- A degree in data, analytics, computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- 3+ years of experience in data, BI or analytics engineering.

- Recent hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience, or strong Azure/Synapse data-platform experience with credible Fabric delivery or migration exposure.

- Strong Power BI skills: data modelling, DAX, Power Query/M, visualization and ongoing support.

- Strong SQL and a good understanding of relational data structures.

- Experience maintaining data pipelines, transformations and scheduled reporting processes.

- Experience reconciling and validating data across multiple sources and diagnosing data, pipeline and reporting issues.

- Strong analytical skills and the ability to explain technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.

- Professional English. Dutch (for Oss) or Spanish (for Pamplona) is a strong advantage for working with local stakeholders.

How you work

- Proactive and accountable: you own an issue from identification through to resolution.

- Methodical and precise: you know business-critical data has to be right.

- Able to turn loosely defined requests into clear deliverables.

- Pragmatic in balancing platform stability with continuous improvement.

Nice to have

- In-depth experience across the Fabric stack (Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse, notebooks, Dataflows Gen2, OneLake).

- Experience connecting new source systems to a data platform.

- Python/PySpark, Git and deployment pipelines (CI/CD).

- Experience with pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences or other regulated (GxP) manufacturing, quality or supply-chain data.

- Experience building management or executive reporting.

What we offer

- A challenging and impactful role in a learning organisation that supports your professional growth.

- A collaborative, international working environment.

- An open corporate culture with short communication lines.

- Attractive employment conditions and flexible working hours.

- Meaningful work on pharmaceutical projects that help bring medicines to patients worldwide, in a culture guided by our WE CARE values: Communicative, Accountable, Reliable and Excellent.
